Are we allowed to be happy tonight?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Let's enjoy this.

But part of me knows that come May one of these two will be picking up the big one while in all likelihood we'll be trophy-less again.

But who knows, maybe the Thursday night trips will dent their league campaigns. But it had better dent the Sp*rs' too.

And we could start to dream about the CL - no City, No ManU, Chelsea not that strong, lots of lesser lights in the round of 16, we could get a few breaks, put in a few good performances. We had chances to beat Barca last season...

also what does this say about the state of the PL? So far both Manchester clubs have not lost to ANYONE outside of Manchester in the PL yet have both already been knocked out of the CL.

I knew it was weaker than it has been but last night was clear proof that we are really are getting behind again. The italian league looks to be a coming force again, and the germans and french are much stronger than they used to be, whereas the big 2 in Spain appear to be on another planet!
United and City still finished with a reasonable amount of points though. Another side from Spain, Villarreal, picked up ZERO points in the whole competition.

It's a bit of a one-off IMO. I can't see this happening that often. I would be shocked if this has any implication on further involvement by English sides.

United had the easiest group of any team and fucked up. I've been saying for a few years now that they aren't a great side. They won the league last year because everyone was shit and they were the least shit side.

I can't see United winning anything this season, the League is City's and they've got them in the FA Cup so I expect City to knock them out.

The joy of them getting knocked out is the arrogance, especially Fergie saying 'We wont get knocked out' and Mancini acting like its a miscarriage of justice that they're not through with 10 points when they've spent billion on a team and Napoli did them over.

I reckon if Utd get to the point where the league becomes out of reach they could fall apart "Arsenal style" in the spring.

beating them at the Emirates in January should do it - and to be honest at the moment there is nothing much to fear from them if we have our best team out.

As you can see, even with the 2 eliminations, England is still the best country this season to the uefa rankings, so it's nearly impossible for us to lose our oh so important 4th place in the near future.

Whilst happy utd are out of the clge, I would be reluctant to give them much stick. After all their exit has nothing to do with us, and after the 8-2 humiliation, we have a lot of pay back to make before we can think about slagging off utd.

What would it have been like if we had gone out in the groups?

We would have got through Uniteds group, im confident of that - ours - with two league champions was tougher and we breezed it.

We will not win the league, and unless Barca and Madrid implode we wont win the CL without a hell of a lot of luck - but we are nowhere near as bad as people like to say we are. We have come a long way since the 8-2. it should never have happenned - totally agree, but we are not the same team.

We have every chance of a top 4 finish, is it what we should be aiming for - no. But given the start and the changes this season id still be over the fucking moon - it would be a massive acheivement and something to build from.

Remember all that stick we got at the start from the press...now their "darlings" have fucked up at the first hurdle....fucking brilliant.

This has nothing to do with us, I agree 100% BUT those smug bastards actually thought they could win it (none of us do) and are as close to Barcelona as it gets.

How delightful is it that they couldn't even get out of one of the easier groups, close to Barcelona????

Yes we lost 8-2, again that's nothing to do with watching those smug bastards suck it up, granted we did get battered but it got balanced up by scoring 5 at the Bridge and humbling those *word censored*.

United have gone out at the group stage in an easy group, been destroyed by their arch enemy at home and gone out of the CC at home to lowly Palace, I guess the 8-2 don't seem so bad to me, it's not like they haven't spanked us before but they wouldn't have felt anything like this for years.

Loving life today.

I hope all of the English team except us go out in the first round every year and the English teams in the competition get reduced to one the Champions. That way we will go for the League Championship every season :barscarf: :barscarf:

Glad Citeh and Manure are out but the attitude of some Arsenal fans is worryingly reminiscent of small-time Spuds showing off about Nayim's freak goal knocking us out when it had nothing to do with them!!!
Im ecstatic Manure are out but still remember the 8-2, and still remember that Citeh just knocked us out the only pot we could realistically win, and still remember we are SIXTH in the league and odds-on to finish fifth. And that it had nothing to do with us.
Still ecstatic they're both out though lol

Anyone but Napoli or Milan please.

I actually agree with your first point Babatunde.

the rest of your post goes downhill fast.
1)dont forget if we hadnt sacrificed the Manure match for the Udinese game we wouldn't be so happy today, as we wouldn't even have qualified for the CL!!! As I say time and time again the Manure result was irrelevant, the Udinese game has made our season.
2)we are actually already in 5th place and therefore I make us odds on to finish in the top 4 considering our recent league form.

we will beat anyone we are drawn against in the CL QFs then who knows?
I am happy with my 28/1 to win the CL anyway :D

we are SIXTH
Look at the league table.

I don't get your comparison either. All team delight in others misfortunes. This one actually has an impact on Arsenal. I'ld be elated if Barca got knocked out as well. Its 2 less clubs to worry about in the CL.

People find it funny as Fergie said there was 'no chance' they wouldn't get through, and City have spent millions and been humbled.
