Legends Statues

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Berkgamp over Henry, any fucking day

Post by Cork City Gooner »

After the game tomorrow, I'm putting Bergkamp's face over Henry's statue.
Sorry Thierry, but if we're talking about service, dedication and LOYALTY to the club, then Dennis wins the prize every time.

Thanks for the statistics Thierry but you were only in it for the money.

This guy is obviously either pissed or high, disrespecting a legend like that is disgraceful

Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But I don't think many will agree with this one.

Agreed Irish Gooner. Tony Adams is an absolute Legend!

No Bergkamp? Bergkamp who was so loyal and long-term he got a testimonial? Can you ever see another player under this overpaid joke Wenger ever getting a testimonial?

No Rocky? Seriously??!

Oh but I forgot. There's a statue of Arsene Wenger.

And if you go up to club level there's a mural called 'Wenger's Firsts'.
A whole wall dedicated to all of Wenger's 'first' amazing victories.

They should probably put Wenger's first 8-2 thrashing on there also...

Are these statues made from solid bronze?

I was just thinking about the scummy bastards who have been nicking metal from war memorials.

It's a bit tempting if you happen to be a low-life *word censored*. Hope there is good security to protect this stuff. :?

Get over it, the ball bounced in the box and should have been cleared!! Henry is a legend and always will be unlike likes of Babs who was on trials but Wenger dropped 8) 8)

Might need to cower in a corner and hide, but if you had 3 statues made I dont think you made the right choices tbh. Chapman fair enough, but not sure I can agree with Henry when Adams is there

Don't cower, don't hide. But you are wrong.

They are both legends. Arsenal has a lot of them, but they are defo two. Every Gooner could name a squad full of players who deserve a statue, with TH and Tony it's a good start.

That Cork City twat...go fuck yourself you dumb *word censored*...if you don't know, just give it up. I thank you.

I agree mate, they are. When Arsenal came to Sunderland and it was rumoured that Henry was on his way, I was one of the SAFC fans that gave the lad a standing ovation when he was substituted. He later mentioned that the ovation he got at our ground and Man Citys (who did the same after we did it) meant a lot to him and helped convince him to stay longer. Henry is quite easily my favourite player outside of those who have played for Sunderland, a great player (not meaning to suck up here but along with Bergkamp [and Messi] probably the best I've ever watched) and a top bloke.

I just think that him and Adams are from too similar a generation. Normally these statues are reserved for old boys in their 60s, 70s or those who have passed away to show that their legend hasnt been dimmed by time. For me, that is when it truly shows how much a player has influenced a club, when a lad long since retired is mentioned or sung about by lads who never even saw him play.

Now, one recent player is fair enough- after all you did have the Invincibles. I just feel that 2 from the current era smacks a bit of trying to make out that either the current era means more, or of forgetting the fact that, as you say, Arsenal have such a proud history that many, many players and managers over the years could have been chosen. Just seems a bit of a corporate decision to me. An Henry statue in time would be fitting, he is the type of player and man who deserves one- but him and Adams almost suggests that this was by far the best age for Arsenal when it simply wasnt. It was a good era but in the 1930s there might well have only been one club in England- 5 titles, 2 FA Cups, immense. Chapman was there for some of that but he's hardly the only worthy one from that, and later but earlier than Adams/ Henry's era.

The change in ground and badge and now 2 from very recent memory being 2 of the 3 of the statues, it just doesnt sit right with me. No disrespect to any of them, all 3 are worthy of a statue, but I'm not even a gooner and I could reel off plenty of others who equally deserve one so it seems daft to choose both of Adams and Henry rather than choosing one for now and giving the other a deserved statue later
