As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
I cannot believe in this day and age that anyone is defending either Celtic or Rangers "right" to sing sectarian hate songs that champion murder, terrorism and mindless hatred based as much on practically defunct religions as any cultural differences... Religions that the vast majority of these mongs don't actually practice beyond attending weddings and/or funerals.
Sectarianism - along with racism - has no place in football. UEFA are mostly a shower of cúnts but fair play to them for trying to stamp this braindead sectarian shite out.
My grandfather was Old IRA, and he fucking hated Celtic and Rangers equally, hated the mindless sectarianism and the hypocrisy of both sides.
And this freedom fighters bollocks? My Arse. These modern IRA murderers (and their UVF counterparts) are nothing more than gangsters, running protection rackets and pushing drugs (whilst kneecapping their drug pushing competition as a "service" to their communities).
As an interesting aside that demonstrates their hypocrisy, did you know that almost the entire IRA senior leadership in the 60's, 70's and 80's were all season ticket holders at Old Shatford?

I can't understand anyone supporting a British team be it Celtic, Rangers or Arsenal wanting to sing anti British songs, would you tolerate pro Al Quaeda songs being sung at the Emirates? No, I didn't think so.
This is my last post on this topic as the level of discussion here is rock bottom.
"would you tolerate pro Al Quaeda songs being sung at the Emirates? No, I didn't think so" - You dont think so!
Who gives a flying fuck what you think. The answer is Yes you fucking muppet. I have posted around 10 replies on this topic, ALL of them defending free speech for EVERYONE, that means EVERYONE, regardless of who they are or what they sing.
We as Gooners (me included) sing anti semitic songs at nearly every game, not just when we play spurs. There is a campaign (with some serious backing) to ban us from using the Y word and to fine us if we do.
The irony is that you lot will be up in arms if AFC gets fined for singing about the ****.
I've never once referred to Spurs in an anti-Semitic way, would be a bit of a Hypocrite if I did when one considers the Jewish links this club has. Similarly I would be a hypocrite if I were to think that singing pro IRA songs was clever whilst supporting a British Team.
Pro Al Quaeda songs would not be tolerated at the Emirates mate. Too many British Soldiers are being killed in the fight against them.
Does my opinion count? Probably not, but then it is not the team that I support which is being fined for it's Sectarian chanting. Oh and please feel free to respond to the other posts on here from other Gooners as it's not just me that feels that singing songs that endorse terrorist acts are not acceptable at a Football match.
Britain actually has very stringent laws regarding freedom of speech, far more strict than most other countries like America etc.
One might even say Britain has no freedom of speech. You only have to look at the many incidents of people "saying the wrong thing" getting hounded by the media and subsequently losing their job.
As regards football, you can get kicked out for swearing so it's no surprise getting fined for banners saying fuck uefa albeit it is true.

When it comes to losing your job by 'saying the wrong thing', it's a case of you may have the right to freedom of speech but your employer doesn't have an obligation to let you air 'inappropriate comments' on their time.
Britain doesn't particularly have any more overbaring laws on free speech than anywhere else.
The law follows Article 10 of the Convention of Human Rights, which most Euro countries are also signed up to.
It allows a right to free speech but with restrictions in accordance with law that prevents hate speech and protects the character of those otherwise defamed.

Funny thing is all these songs from two Glasgow teams about Irish sectarianism, these days it seems like it's actually worse in Glasgow than in Ireland itself - which seems to be moving on from all that shite.

That is completely and utterly besides the point. Both clubs (or elements of both clubs) are utter scum, the fact that one is just as bad as the other isn't a defence. UEFA are absolutely right to try and stamp out sectarianism, it isn't a freedom of speech issue. It's equally pathetic that a lot of Celtic and rangers fans that sing this shite are actually Scottish and have nothing more than incredibly tenuous links to Ireland, if that, and understand fuck all about it. Both clubs are a disgrace- chanting about the IRA and UVF/ famines etc is completely unhelpful at a time when Britain and Ireland are trying to improve relations and move forward sensibly and peacefully in an attempt to prevent further loss of life on both sides which does nothing to solve differences and instead succeeds only in causing untold hurt to families on both sides of the divide. In short a fair number of Rangers and Celtic fans need to fucking grow up and stop glorifying terrorism and or loss of life, set of stupid kids the pair of them. And no, you can't come and play in England, you're both a fucking disgrace to football.
Completely agree.
My only sympathy with Celtic lies on the fact that the majority of their fans seem cool - whenever they're in London, they want to get pissed and have a good time.
Maybe you should check out the you tube footage of celtic fans abusing British troops at the Emirates Cup a couple of years back before you make your judgement! I was there that day,and also saw celtic fans outside the stadium.(near where the O2 "tent" usually is),spitting at some uniformed troops who were standing there, waiting,(at Arsenal Football Clubs invitation) to attend the match!!!
Sectarianism is fucking bollocks where-ever it comes from!!!

Doesn't surprise me at all, don't forget that when the British were standing alone against Hitler's Nazism, what do you think the IRA were doing? Care to guess?
So yea, don't mind if I do take offence at any suggestion that Sectarianism should be allowed a voice.
Fair enough, don't bother going to Emirates cups so can't comment. They were well behaved in the Champions League, but anyone who spat at squaddies (or anyone else) is a *word censored*.
