The Resurrection of Cesc (5/3)

usual thread starter… obviously delighted I misjudged the team after the Villa game. And pleased to be eating humble pie today. Of course I could claim the old reverse psychology, but the reality is that I’ve seen Arsenal’s season collapse in a very short time more than once before and I was seeing all the signs again. Let’s hope this result is the making of this team. What a difference three days make…
So, who do you fancy in the last eight, given the choice? I'd say we've some unfinished business with a team on the east coast of Espagna...

I didn't know what to think on Saturday but you are right we've seen seasons slip away to many times and the signs were there. However, I did say to my mate that the late goal might put a line under a very bad week and galvanise a new belief. Well whatever happened what a joy last night was, I didn't go but my mate texted me to say the atmosphere was fantastic even Swiss Tony's name getting sung. It was great to watch on the telly, it reminded me of Juve at Highbury a couple of years ago even if we did have to wait for the goals.
The only concern is that we turn up at Wigan and look at it as a chore rather than a game we desperatly need to win. There was no secret to last night it was hard work all over the pitch and we need to do that again and again.
As much as it would worry me meeting Utd in the next round and knocking them out would be the sweetest victory for me.

And I won't say I told you so - OK just a teensy-weensy bit of toldyouso, including a dig at the Theo-disbelievers. But this is no time for Ade/Nick-type sparring; we're all in this together - Club Level half time munchers you too - and it's back to the Premiership grind next weekend with lots of optimism.
One other thought: the TH14 deal nets Arsenal an extra £2m+ if Barcelona win the Champions League. Who thought up that stupid idea and why on earth did AFC agree, as the club would effectively lose that amount if we meet and beat Barca in any of the coming rounds? Nuts

No point hand-picking really. We all know the sides that we'd prefer but as long as we play our 2nd leg at home, I am confident that we can beat anyonegooner.ed wrote:So, who do you fancy in the last eight, given the choice? Last eight
Agree with `proud` Roma looked impressive .I think Schalke would be our best bet to progress.
Although I don`t like Liverpool I hope they get through against Inter as having four english teams in the last eight would be incredible and show that the Premiership is the strongest league.

I've read a few of his editorials and from what I gather, he sounds more like a Sky or BBC "expert pundit guru magic man" at times and it's ridiculous.
I've never claimed to be an "expert pundit guru magic man", just an Arsenal fan. And at times I have been optimistic, at others pessimistic. But I will say I try and take a long term view and don't lay into Wenger when things do go wrong, I just try and fathom reasons when things are going well and are not. It's all about opinions. Mine are subjective, and change. If that isn't what you want to read stick to 'objecive' broadsheet websites. But I can't change my style to make out I know more than pretty much any other fan that reads it. All I do is stick my head above the parapet and await the bullets.

I never said that you are an 'expert'. All I said was that you sound like one at times because after a win they say we're the greatest thing since toilet paper and one loss (or draw) and we're in downward spiral to fifth spot.
I didn't mean to sound like a prick with my first post so I apologise if that's how it came across. You obviously invest a lot of time to all things Arsenal are no doubt a passionate fan and I absolutely respect your opinion.
All I was trying to suggest was to not lose faith so suddenly after one poor performance. The players are human as well and after what happened in Birmingham, I wouldn't want to play the next game either.
Fortunately we took that as a wake up call and showed up to beat Milan. It could've been worse. We could've played Milan after the Birmingham game. I for one think we wouldn't be in the Champions League if that were the case.
