A genuine question for Wenger supporters

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

A genuine question for Wenger supporters

Post by SteveO 35 »

What would represent failure to you?

Many of us on here have been accused of actually getting off on criticising Wenger, and we hear the counter arguments regularly about resources of other teams etc.

So, quite simply, in the world of Wenger's supporters how bad would it have to be before you wanted him out? Trophies are obviously not an issue because we are about to go seven years without one and he still has your support.

So presumably top four is acceptable. What happens if that disappears? Is a Europa League spot still acceptable?

I would genuinely like to know how bad things would need to get before you thought he should possibly be replaced

OK, so if Arsenal finish 5th and miss out on the top 4 by a small margin are you saying that you're through with Wenger.....or?

Just finishing top 4 is not acceptable for a club the size of Arsenal

Failure is not finishing top.

Why settle for 4th? We charge the highest ticket prices and generate the highest amount of revenue out of all English clubs.

Wenger has failed miserably in the last 7 years.

considering what went on last summer I would maybe give Wenger another season if he failed to get top 4.

however I consider it very unlikely we wont finish top 4. there is also the insurance policy of winning the CL if we don't

If Wenger goes then the board should go with him. No point in shooting the organ grinder's monkey.

I think most of us would cut him a bit more slack than simply not winning the league. The issue for me is allowing the standard to have consistently dropped - it used to be top 2 and a cup. Now its been top 4 for a while and fuck the cups.

How long before a European place is the standard?

My question really is aimed at those that are still in support of Wenger. I would love to know what would be a failure to these people. Are they happy because we're not 15th anymore ?

So there we have it, finishing 1st is morally corrupt, lads...

there does need to be more effort made to win trophies again I will admit that. 7 years with just the Emirates Cup to show for it is not really acceptable

I cannot wait to read the response of Kiwomya or Highbury JD on this one.
It will probably be:

'Failure would represent an inability to qualify for European competition. As long as Arsene qualifies us for Europe bla bla etc...he is the only man who can take us back to CL football. Milan, Inter and Bayern have all had a season out of the CL and Arsene has done miracles on a limited budget, most clubs would love to have him. Judge him at the end of the Europa League, it's the players who have to look at themselves bla bla etc...it ain't Arsene's fault he is only the manager, only the one who decides their contracts *suck suck suck* etc...'

You and I share the same mentality mate. Too big-time for nouveau Arsenal though. Perhaps we should piss off and go support some club where 4th place is greeted as unsatisfactory!!!

You think when these kind of ppl watch the Olympics and see the podium, they are surprised when 4th place isn't awarded a medal? All the greatest champions in sport throughout the ages have been known for 'settling for second for the next 20 years' eh?

Wenger. He'll go down as an overhyped piece of shit.
Which is what he is.
