For Irish gooners

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Bring the woman and daughter to about 4 (included in the 12 or 15)

Up at 4am back at 2am when doing day tripper. Cost = €40 flights + Gatwick All Day Travel Card only £11 pp (£1 for a child :barscarf: )+ booze and food.

If staying over night stay in Premier Inn £29 for 3 of us :barscarf: happy days

Have 3 season tickets with my brother and cousin for the last 3 years and we have wasted 2 matches so far (coz of snow) which I think is great. Have had to use ticket exchange a couple of times and they sold :barscarf:
Which Premier Inn is this, the cheapest i saw was £69 at Stratford

I normally stay at the Gatwick Manor Royal. You would have to book over a month in advance to get the cheaper non refundable rate.

Bit of a difference between the Irish who have connections to London & a day tripper I reckon :banghead:

Anyone who was in Copehangen against Parma will remember the large contingents of Irish & Scandinavians that were there that night :barscarf: The days when you could travel to a European final & only proper fans made the journey & few corporates & freeloaders.

Both groups have a long tradition of going Arsenal games before the days of the PL & Sky attracted the Tarquins & mass overseas support.

Lots of Arsenal follow the club from up North, especially Yorkshire & some from Wales & Scotland are these fans daytrippers? :banghead:

And many old school supporters have stopped going into the Spacebowl just drinking in the pubs near the ground & only attend away games nowadays when we can get tickets, what are we, awaytrippers? :barscarf:

Supporters who spend a fortune to travel over from Ireland to actively support the club (especially during the current Arsenal woes) can surely only be respected by fellow supporters.

As previously stated there is a long running Arsenal/Ireland connection with many historic players and supporters coming from the Emerald Isle.

Long live the Irish blood in Arsenal.

Most are daytrippers, lets be honest. If all the above are complaining about the cost of going to watch football, why don't go an support your local club as well?

That's the problem, most people in Ireland will spend a fortune coming over here for games while complain that the League of Ireland is shit. If only....

Before anyone asks, I'm Irish, living here about 10 months now. My team and hometown is Drogheda Utd and as a football fan I've started taking in Arsenal games, which I've been lucky enough to attend most home games since mid October and stand in the lower tier for all of them.

I'll support Arsenal while I'm here but if I go home then I'll back on on the terraces with 500 people at Utd Park and won't be looking to spend £200 or so every fortnight :)

Lads, you're all daytrippers, just more experienced at it than most

I've only just read this thread. The title made me feel excluded by racist bastards

I don't have any Irish blood in me (unless you believe that DB10 and his forefathers - the Pikeys - have been fucking the brains out of our English women for many years). :?

I'd just like to say that I fuckin love the Oirish. You lot have a sense of humour which is, on balance, better than that of the Ingerlish, Sweaty Socks, and the Male Voice Choir Sheep Shaggers. 8)

I fucking hate the attitude of some North-London-born-and-bred people who seem to think that they are in some way superior to any other Gooners (I was born in London).

A Gooner is a Gooner. End of.

fair play oldgit gooner agree on all points there , some people abroad love the arsenal but simply just cant afford to go to a match, but they have the same love and affection for the arsenal as a season ticket holder etc.

personally i go over 3-4 games a year daytrip keep cost as low as possible as most people paycuts, kids etc have made it harder to afford to go over to more games.

quick question for anyone i plan to bring my 6 year old kid to his first game (wigan game) not on a day trip as it would be too long of a day. can anyone recommend a cheap but clean b&b or hotel that dont charge an arm and a leg.

ps happy new year to you all,
