Champions League Ticketing

Post by RaM »

Forgive my ignorance here (not like I've ever bought any) but how does the ticketing sydtem work for away matches in the Champions League?

Are they easy or hard to get?

Is there only a small number allocated to away support?

pretty sure milan away went to reds so shouldnt be too hard, however the later in the comp we get the harder it would be i should imagin

allocations vary from stadium to stadium

milan was 5000 in like an 80,000 stadium or somthing stupid

the further away the place the better chance you have

The guideline seems to be about 5%.

So Shalke may be ok, with such a large capacity stadium. And you'll probably stand a chance with Fenerbache....

But would general public (i.e me) from another country have a hope in hell of getting a ticket?

This is pretty much speaking hypothetically by the way, I doubt I'll actually get to a CL match this season....

As of October this year though I'll be finished school and my life will be all mine.  :D

well your main problem is that the tickets are not sent out until sometimes 10 days before the match. so if you are travelling from Oz, even as a red member, then you will struggle. best bet is to join the supporters club based in Oz and then you will get access to a network whereby tickets can be sorted. you'd probably end up having to collect from someone at the city concerned on the day of the game, but it is possible. either that, or beg for a spare on the forum and pick that up at the city concerned.

as for allocations, of course stadium size is everything, tied in with local policing policy - how many do they want to attempt to control. all english aways will be in huge demand, as will barcelona (popularity of trip) and schalke (if that figure of under 2,000 is true). fenerbache and roma should not be a big problem though.

remember villarreal two seasons back. a game you simply had to be at, yet so many simply couldn't get a ticket. i ended up in the opposite corner to the arsenal fans, great view of lehmann's save. got lucky. i was prepared to pay £140 for a ticket though, and there were a number going - all in a section right next to the away support.

I think the answer is yes! First of all, become a member. If you sign up to Junior Gunners this gives you Silver Membership. If you are slightly too old for JG then lie on the application! If you join as an adult then you only get Red membership  !

Secondly, you'll often find away tickets being advertised as many people buy them purely to resell (non-profit!) so as to boost their away match credits. You just need to get in there quickly.

Thirdly, don't set your sights too high. There will always be some matches that are easier to get than others!

I was chatting to a couple of Olympiakos fans on our flight back from Italy. They were on their way to Stamford Bridge for their CL match, had bought tickets on-line direct from Chelsea - but then had them cancelled as they had Greek names....! I've since heard that even Chelsea members with Greek surnames had similar problems getting tickets!

Did anyone of Italian descent have problems getting tickets for Milan? One of our parties surname was Capello (no relation...) but Arsenal were happy to issue him with a ticket.

We have so many supporters with Greek/Turkish/Italian etc roots that having such a black and white approach to issuing tickets seems a bit like a sledgehammer to crack a nut!! Hopefully Arsenal won't adopt a similar approach, especially with Fenerbache and Roma still possibilities for the quarter final.

kThanks for all the info guys.

Wow that thing with the surnames is unexpected....never thought that would happen. Don't suppose I'll ever have problem with my name though unless we draw an Irish team in the CL.
