You as a fan of Arsenal FC.

Post by SammyDroppedHisShorts »

I have been watching in my short time on this forum a lot of arguments, disagreements and lack of respect for one another plus for the club itself.

We as fans do have a right to voice our opinions and give pats or knives on/in the back when things are good/bad.

It got me thinking about the type of fan we have on this forum because often on away trips there is very little anto Wenger or Arsenal discussions. I was even surprised to hear Arsenal fans singing "There's only one Arsene Wenger" at Fulham.

So if you guys have a little time id like to ask you some questions for you to answer. Your opinions are important and id like it if you were brutally honest when answering, but also providing respect for each and everyones opinions.

1. When did you start supporting Arsenal and why?

2. When and aginst whom was your first game at Highbury?

3. Which of the four stands at Highbury did you frequent regularly and why did you choose to stay there (for example i was a North Banker and because i loved to actually look at the big clock in the clock end)

4. Which venue was your first away ground following Arsenal?

5. When did you first go to White Hart Lane for a NLD?

6. Of the North West grounds which one was/is your favourite and why?

7. Of the North West grounds which one was/ is your least favourite and why?

8. Have you ever been hurt at an away ground and how badly?

9. Have you ever travelled with the travel club and if so do you think its both value for money and time saving?

10. Which of the old grounds that no longer exist do you miss (not including HIghbury)

11. How many cup finals have you attended with Arsenal playing?

12. Which one game stands out for you as the best for entertainment( not including cup finals or title winning matches)?

13. Who for you is the greatest player to wear the shirt and why?

14. If you saw your first game in the 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s who was your hero for Arsenal?

15. Are the dark days of the mid 70s and early 80s being eclipsed by the current last five years for despair?

16. How much realistically do you think Arsenal need to spend to build a team capable of winning the title?

17. Do you really think the departure of Harry Redknapp will change the fortunes of Tottenham to what we have come accustomed to?

18. Do you blame Roman Abramovich for the decline of football and the financial restraints it has placed upon other clubs?

19. Do you think once Wenger leaves Arsenal the club can return to the halycon days of the invincibles and who do you feel could take us there?

20. What one moment in Arsenal's history would you change and for what reason?

Thanks dudes....i hope you answer these fairly and honestly.

He was one of the first problems yes

19. Do you think once Wenger leaves Arsenal the club can return to the halycon days of the invincibles and who do you feel could take us there?

We won't go back to invincibles just like that, I'd take mourinho, 0 chance of that happening though lol

20. What one moment in Arsenal's history would you change and for what reason? Moving out of Highbury. Better than the souless bowl we have right now.

1. When did you start supporting Arsenal and why?
When I was born (1982) Dad was a Season Ticket Holder and had been a Season Ticket Holder for 10-15 years. Before that he used to work the turnstiles.

2. When and against whom was your first game at Highbury?
FA Youth Cup Final 1988 (at the age of 5). First proper game November 1989 vs Norwich I think. David O’ Leary broke the appearance record.

3. Which of the four stands at Highbury did you frequent regularly and why did you choose to stay there (for example i was a North Banker and because i loved to actually look at the big clock in the clock end)
East Stand in my Dad’s mate’s seat when he was away or in the Junior Gunners Section as you could pay on the door and be in the “Face in the Crowdâ€

Are the dark days of the mid 70s and early 80s
ah yes, those horrible times, when we made the cup winners cup final, got to the FA Cup final, finished 3rd in '81, and 5th in 82

bloody better than these days if you ask me

1. When did you start supporting Arsenal and why?
when dennis signed - he was my favourite player, i had given up on the shameful brazilian league, and always liked the british culture, so went slowly creating a strong link with the team. i was 12 when dennis signed for us.

2. When and aginst whom was your first game at Highbury?
never got to see that beauty

3. Which of the four stands at Highbury did you frequent regularly and why did you choose to stay there (for example i was a North Banker and because i loved to actually look at the big clock in the clock end)
never went to highbury

4. Which venue was your first away ground following Arsenal?
wigan - DW stadium

5. When did you first go to White Hart Lane for a NLD?
never did

6. Of the North West grounds which one was/is your favourite and why?
only been to wigan. liked it, but then it was my only ever away trip.

7. Of the North West grounds which one was/ is your least favourite and why?
same as before.

8. Have you ever been hurt at an away ground and how badly?
yes, squilacci broke my heart by gifting wigan the equalizer against us. never got injured if that's what you mean.

9. Have you ever travelled with the travel club and if so do you think its both value for money and time saving?
no

10. Which of the old grounds that no longer exist do you miss (not including HIghbury)
can't say

11. How many cup finals have you attended with Arsenal playing?
none

12. Which one game stands out for you as the best for entertainment( not including cup finals or title winning matches)?
that i attended? if so, win against chelsea on boxing day 2010. if not, the thrashing of everton in that game that dennis played his heart out in the twilight of his career. it was end of the season, can't remember what year exactly.

13. Who for you is the greatest player to wear the shirt and why?
the dennis. best footballer ever. a class man and an incredible player, pure magic. loved watching that man play, made it all look simple and easy, and always gave 100%.

14. If you saw your first game in the 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s who was your hero for Arsenal?
first time in 2010.

15. Are the dark days of the mid 70s and early 80s being eclipsed by the current last five years for despair?
all my knowledge of the 70s and 80s is based on the videos i bought and downloaded, but i don't think so. we're still considered a top european team and we do play some interesting football every once in a while. we've been on the champions league since forever and people in the whole world has a good opinion about arsenal. these are not dark days, we're only upset because it could be brighter.

16. How much realistically do you think Arsenal need to spend to build a team capable of winning the title?
it's not only about money, it's about tactics, injuries, leadership, mentality, many other things as well. but given what we have right now, i'd say that if we spent the 50M we have on the bank plus some 10-20 millions we would gather from players that would leave to make room, i'm sure we'd be up there fighting for silverware. we don't need many players, we need a few very good ones.

17. Do you really think the departure of Harry Redknapp will change the fortunes of Tottenham to what we have come accustomed to?
hard to say. but when you take the manager out of a team that is playing very well you do have to suppose their form will decline a bit.

18. Do you blame Roman Abramovich for the decline of football and the financial restraints it has placed upon other clubs?
no, he's not the only one. i blame the FA for allowing it to happen. but surely his arrival fucked us and the english football right up the ass.

19. Do you think once Wenger leaves Arsenal the club can return to the halycon days of the invincibles and who do you feel could take us there?
it can, but it may and it may not. hiring a great manager sometimes isn't all (look at chelsea and villas boas), and we're not sure about how much of our "tight fistness" is wenger's fault and how much it's the boards', so like i read tony saunders mention in this forum, maybe the board will look for a future manager with similar philosophies?
if i could hire anyone, i'd say that guardiola is a tactical genius and seems like one of the top managers of the future.

20. What one moment in Arsenal's history would you change and for what reason?
champions league final in '06. that was really heartbreaking.

partly

19. Do you think once Wenger leaves Arsenal the club can return to the halycon days of the invincibles and who do you feel could take us there?

1. When did you start supporting Arsenal and why?
Around 1987/88 (age 7), I grew up in north london so that narrowed it down. I remember Charlie Nicholas being in the news a lot & disliking spurs so it was an easy choice.

2. When and aginst whom was your first game at Highbury?
Screening of an away NLD in late 97, 1-1 draw.

3. Which of the four stands at Highbury did you frequent regularly and why did you choose to stay there (for example i was a North Banker and because i loved to actually look at the big clock in the clock end)
Not a regular

4. Which venue was your first away ground following Arsenal?
Camp Nou

5. When did you first go to White Hart Lane for a NLD?
Never been

6. Of the North West grounds which one was/is your favourite and why?
Never been

7. Of the North West grounds which one was/ is your least favourite and why?
Never been

8. Have you ever been hurt at an away ground and how badly?
No

9. Have you ever travelled with the travel club and if so do you think its both value for money and time saving?
Never used

10. Which of the old grounds that no longer exist do you miss (not including HIghbury)
Not been to any

11. How many cup finals have you attended with Arsenal playing?
None

12. Which one game stands out for you as the best for entertainment( not including cup finals or title winning matches)?
If it's one I've attended it would be the 3-1 win against Chelsea at the end of 2010.

13. Who for you is the greatest player to wear the shirt and why?
Henry just ahead of Bergkamp, was perfectly suited to our game at the time.

14. If you saw your first game in the 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s who was your hero for Arsenal?
Ian Wright. I remember queuing for a few hours to get his autograph in 95, just as I got to the front of the queue we were told he was finished & had some promo photos to do but in the middle of the photos he came over to me & gave me his autograph anyway.

15. Are the dark days of the mid 70s and early 80s being eclipsed by the current last five years for despair?
Wasn't around for them. The last few Graham years were poor but you knew there were a lot of poor players but they were at least trying. Last few years it was almost the opposite; talented players underachieving.

16. How much realistically do you think Arsenal need to spend to build a team capable of winning the title?
around 50m now but we can offset some of that against several sales. A year ago I would have said 30m but thats the whole problem, chronic decline.

17. Do you really think the departure of Harry Redknapp will change the fortunes of Tottenham to what we have come accustomed to?
Only if whoever comes in sells Bale & Modric & brings in a bunch of flops.

18. Do you blame Roman Abramovich for the decline of football and the financial restraints it has placed upon other clubs?
No, always someone on another financial level. Before Chelsea it was Man U, now Man City.

19. Do you think once Wenger leaves Arsenal the club can return to the halycon days of the invincibles and who do you feel could take us there? Maybe not the Invincibles but title winners, Mourinho would be the obvious choice. Aren't Hiddink & Van Gaal currently free too? All that assumes the manager would be given money to spend by the board although as someone who follows NFL & NBA I'm a bit worried as Silent Stan tends to run teams on the cheap.

20. What one moment in Arsenal's history would you change and for what reason? CL final, I've tried to block most of that game out of my memory, ablsoutely gutted for weeks afterwards. A more obscure one would be the 3-3 draw with Leicester in 97, feel like it did a lot of mental damage conceding 2 injury time goals & we've been jittery with late leads ever since.

1. When did you start supporting Arsenal and why?
First game I went to was in 1971, aged 5. My dad watched a lot of football as he lived in London but didn't 'support' any one team. For some reason, evidently I badgered him to take me to Arsenal. It kind of grew from there!

2. When and aginst whom was your first game at Highbury?
As above, 1971. I seem to recall it was Middlesboro'

3. Which of the four stands at Highbury did you frequent regularly and why did you choose to stay there (for example i was a North Banker and because i loved to actually look at the big clock in the clock end)
North Bank. Stood on it with my dad as soon as I was big enough to be able to watch the game. Sat in the West stand before that. My dad died of cancer in 1991 just after we won the league, we were both going to apply for a bond in the new north bank so I did that in memory of my dad, hence I am a bond holder now. My S/T at the Emirates was lower west, at the back of the stand behind the Arsenal bench. Now I'm just silver!!

4. Which venue was your first away ground following Arsenal?
I really can't remember! I started going to away matches regularly in 1980 and used to miss just 2 or 3 a season but I think I went to a few of the London clubs before then. West Ham may have been my first

5. When did you first go to White Hart Lane for a NLD?
Would have been early 80's. My old man and I actually queued up at WHL one time to ensure we got tickets for a cup match and we ended up standing on the shelf right next to the away section.....little did we know! As it got closer to kick off and we realised we were in serious danger of a kicking, my old man asked a steward if we could walk through to the away section, when he waved me down I took off my red and white scarf, which was under my coat cue me getting covered in spit!! Got a round of applause from the Gooners though!

6. Of the North West grounds which one was/is your favourite and why?
I like Goodison for the atmosphere, Anfield was disappointing (Kop roar my arse)! Old Shitford is just a nasty place.

7. Of the North West grounds which one was/ is your least favourite and why?
Old Trafford - we rarely get a result and it's full of United *word censored*!

8. Have you ever been hurt at an away ground and how badly?
No, but have been tear gassed twice and come very close to getting a beating. Mainly back in the 80's on away days as we used to sit in the home stands sometimes.

9. Have you ever travelled with the travel club and if so do you think its both value for money and time saving?
Used to when I was younger. Was always fairly expensive but obviously made it easy. I used to love the football special trains, but hated coach travel.

10. Which of the old grounds that no longer exist do you miss (not including HIghbury)
Not many to be honest. Pride Park had a decent atmosphere. The Dell was always a good laugh, the Goldstone Ground was also a good laugh.

11. How many cup finals have you attended with Arsenal playing?
All of them between 1987 and present day except the '93 FA cup final replay

12. Which one game stands out for you as the best for entertainment( not including cup finals or title winning matches)?
League cup semi-final at WHL, with Rocky getting the winner at the end. My second fave match of all time behind Anfield.

13. Who for you is the greatest player to wear the shirt and why?
Tony Adams. Normal guy, could really relate to him, had his demons, Mr Arsenal.
A close second would be Dennis. Unbelievable skills.

14. If you saw your first game in the 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s who was your hero for Arsenal?
There have been a few....Brady, Woodcock, Nicholas, Adams, Wrighty, Dennis, Paddy, Titi and Denilson (okay, I'm lying about the last one)!! 8)

15. Are the dark days of the mid 70s and early 80s being eclipsed by the current last five years for despair?
Different times. Expectations in the 80's were fairly low, we were shit and we knew it. Therefore it meant more when we got results.
Now we know what success tastes like and nothing else will do in a way.
I'm not so bothered about lack of trophies in the last 5 years, just the fact that as a team we have got worse, or at best stood still whilst everyone else has improved. I really can't see it changing under Wenger, hence my dislike for the man.

16. How much realistically do you think Arsenal need to spend to build a team capable of winning the title?
More important is a manager who can change a game tactically. A good manager with £75m to spend could win us the title.

17. Do you really think the departure of Harry Redknapp will change the fortunes of Tottenham to what we have come accustomed to?
It would to an extent but the players they have are very decent now and will be able to perform under any manager. Worryingly, now they are competing, if 'Arry left they should be capable of attracting a top top manager to replace him

18. Do you blame Roman Abramovich for the decline of football and the financial restraints it has placed upon other clubs?
The problem is, it raised transfer fees in general. Making it harder for other clubs. However, there are still great deals to be had, but clubs need to move quickly.....not something that Wenger or modern day Arsenal do at all!!

19. Do you think once Wenger leaves Arsenal the club can return to the halycon days of the invincibles and who do you feel could take us there?
We can certainly be successful again, under the right manager and with the backing of the board. I don't think Kronke is at Arsenal to dominate English or European football so we probably need a new owner with the ambition that matches the fans. We also need a manager who is capable in every area, something Wenger is not!!

20. What one moment in Arsenal's history would you change and for what reason?
Kronke buying the club. We need a more ambitious owner.

1. When did you start supporting Arsenal and why?
I liked football from a young age but didn't really support a team, but then I saw my cousin in the JVC shirt with Bergkamp on the back and it just looked immense, so I bought one. I was about 10 at the time. I didn't have a footballing influence in my close family. My mum hates it, my dad left the family when I was really young - he was a scum fan.

2. When and aginst whom was your first game at Highbury?
First game at Highbury was Arsenal 1-0 Spartak Moscow, TH14 scored the winner - 7th March 2001. I guess that makes me a JCL, but I was only 13 at the time and had nobody to take me, so me and the aforementioned cousin skipped the afternoon off school. Got a right bollocking but was worth it

3. Which of the four stands at Highbury did you frequent regularly and why did you choose to stay there (for example i was a North Banker and because i loved to actually look at the big clock in the clock end)
Didn't really "frequent" one stand, but the first time I actually attended highbury (not including live matches) was for the screening of Chelsea v Arsenal when we were 2-0 down at HT and won 3-2 with a Kanu hat trick in 1999. It was tipping with rain and I got soaked but that was a magical day, seeing the turf for the first time was quite simply awe inspiring, so for that reason the North Bank, looking away towards the clock, will always be a special view in my memory.

4. Which venue was your first away ground following Arsenal?
First away game was Pompey in 2009 - we won 4-1.

5. When did you first go to White Hart Lane for a NLD?
First NLD was April 2010, we lost 2-1 and I've been to every NLD in the past three seasons (haven't won there yet!)

6. Of the North West grounds which one was/is your favourite and why?
Old Trafford, although I haven't seen us get a result there! Must have been amazing when we won the league there though... "WILTOOOOOOOOORD!"

7. Of the North West grounds which one was/ is your least favourite and why?
Ethiad. Fucking shit fake money grabbing glory hunting *word censored*.

8. Have you ever been hurt at an away ground and how badly?
Never, although my mate was pushed up against the wall outside Stoke before he realised there was a group of us with him. Stoke's a fucking toilet as well..

9. Have you ever travelled with the travel club and if so do you think its both value for money and time saving?
Never! Minibus and a few crates is the way to go!

10. Which of the old grounds that no longer exist do you miss (not including HIghbury)
Too young to have been to any to be honest! Although if the Hammers do end up moving to the Olympic Stadium, I think I'll miss Upton Park. It's a toilet and all that but it has a decent atmosphere when we visit!

11. How many cup finals have you attended with Arsenal playing?
None!

12. Which one game stands out for you as the best for entertainment( not including cup finals or title winning matches)?
Has to be the 5-3 at the Chavs this season. I've been to the Bridge the last three times and we lost 2-0 in both previously, so to finally get one over on them was immense, and the manner we did it was just brilliant. When RVP rounded Cech and slid the ball home I've never been in a situation like that ever. Literally hugging random people and going completely mental! That's what away days are all about.

13. Who for you is the greatest player to wear the shirt and why?
Thierry Henry for me. Phenomenal player, and I basically grew up watching him. He was my childhood idol. The first shirt I ever bought had his name and number on the back. Whenever I was playing football as a kid I'd always pretend I was Henry and try to curl it round the keeper into the bottom corner!

14. If you saw your first game in the 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s who was your hero for Arsenal?
First game was in the 90s but from about the age of 13 onwards it was TH14 for the above reasons.

15. Are the dark days of the mid 70s and early 80s being eclipsed by the current last five years for despair?
I wasn't alive in the 70s or much of the 80s but the last few years have been poor. The trouble with the last few years is it's all been so avoidable too, and that is what has got a lot of people's backs up. The same old excuses and empty promises.

16. How much realistically do you think Arsenal need to spend to build a team capable of winning the title?
In all honesty, not a huge amount. I think we need to adopt a 4-4-2 again and bring in another quality striker with RVP - Maybe £25-30m of striker. I also think we need a worldie of a DM, so again another £25m. So that's £50m, two world class players, and I think we'll be challenging again.

17. Do you really think the departure of Harry Redknapp will change the fortunes of Tottenham to what we have come accustomed to?
They're in a good position now but don't have rich benefactors so can't chuck money at it forever. I think Redknapp's departure will hit them hard and they're punching above their weight this season.

18. Do you blame Roman Abramovich for the decline of football and the financial restraints it has placed upon other clubs?
No not really. I blame UEFA and FIFA for not having introduced more stringent controls for financial fair play. I'm not sure the ones coming up will make much difference either.

19. Do you think once Wenger leaves Arsenal the club can return to the halycon days of the invincibles and who do you feel could take us there?
I hope so. I hope it's not too damaged by then. I think someone like Guardiola could really bring the club back to winning ways, and of course attract top talent too. It depends how much of a ruin we're in when Wenger goes though.

20. What one moment in Arsenal's history would you change and for what reason?
I'd change the Taylor tackle on Eduardo. Had we won that game, I think we'd have won the title that season. The way that game panned out had a huge effect on the squad and ultimately lead to a terrible run of form which cost us the league. Had we won that title, there wouldn't be as much pressure to achieve now, and we may have kept players that have since departed.

1. When did you start supporting Arsenal and why?

1986. My Dad was a season ticket holder and brought a book called "The History of Arsenal" by Phil Soar and Martin Tyler. I fell in love with The Arsenal reading about the history of such an awesome club

2. When and aginst whom was your first game at Highbury?

Aston Villa (H) can't remember when exactly but we drew 2-2. Merson scored both our goals I think

3. Which of the four stands at Highbury did you frequent regularly and why did you choose to stay there (for example i was a North Banker and because i loved to actually look at the big clock in the clock end)

Only been once, so Clock End. I was 6 rows from the front and there was fuck all view of the other side of the ground

4. Which venue was your first away ground following Arsenal?

Villa Park

5. When did you first go to White Hart Lane for a NLD?

Haven't been :(
Did see the 91 Cup Semi at Wembley though. Not fun

6. Of the North West grounds which one was/is your favourite and why?

Old Trafford, but that's because I went to see Chesterfield vs Boro there in the FA Cup Semi

7. Of the North West grounds which one was/ is your least favourite and why?

Burnley is a shit hole

8. Have you ever been hurt at an away ground and how badly?

Nope

9. Have you ever travelled with the travel club and if so do you think its both value for money and time saving?

No

10. Which of the old grounds that no longer exist do you miss (not including HIghbury)

Saltergate

11. How many cup finals have you attended with Arsenal playing?

None

12. Which one game stands out for you as the best for entertainment( not including cup finals or title winning matches)?

Crickey. I guess my first one at Highbury just for the whole occasion

13. Who for you is the greatest player to wear the shirt and why?

Tony Adams. Just one player who sums up for me what The Arsenal have been all about. There have probably been better players, but it's the whole leadership thing that we have been sadly missing since he retired

14. If you saw your first game in the 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s/2000s who was your hero for Arsenal?

Tony Adams

15. Are the dark days of the mid 70s and early 80s being eclipsed by the current last five years for despair?

Can't really comment as wasn't born, but the stats don't seem to back that up

16. How much realistically do you think Arsenal need to spend to build a team capable of winning the title?

£400 million. It's nothing to do with building a side at the moment, just buying one

17. Do you really think the departure of Harry Redknapp will change the fortunes of Tottenham to what we have come accustomed to?

Nope, although their Stadium will do

18. Do you blame Roman Abramovich for the decline of football and the financial restraints it has placed upon other clubs?

Nope

19. Do you think once Wenger leaves Arsenal the club can return to the halycon days of the invincibles and who do you feel could take us there?

Not as good as the Invincibles. I can't think of a realistic target unless the whole structure of the club changes

20. What one moment in Arsenal's history would you change and for what reason?

My Dad's mate that he went to every game with not committing suicide. My Dad has only been to one game since that event and that was to take me, he told me he couldn't do it.
David Dein doesn't resign as Chief Exec (Or was he Vice Chairman?)
