Henry and Van Persie, the perfect match?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

How should Henry and Van Persie play in the same team?

No problem, RvP should be subbed for Henry's 10 minutes as striker.

We don't play with a classic number 10 anymore. Nice theory but of course it would require a manage who doesn't come to every single match with the same tactic

Nail on the head there steve o - our tactical guru is famous for putting square pegs in round holes (and no that isnt some double meaning phrase talking about his sexual exploits  ) :x :x

I can't speak for the WE......only the I.

So if it were me, then heaven forbid.....wait for it, because this is earth shattering stuff.....

......I might take the hugely revolutionary step of using him differently depending on the opponents and match situation as it unfolded. Yep, I know it sounds crazy but in a home game against a Championship team I might take that unusual step of playing him differently to how I would in the San Siro.

Against weaker teams at home I'd play a second striker, just behind RvP. Arshavin has the vision to play in that role, but perhaps no longer the appetite or application, but TH14 could do it. Whether he could do it for 90 minutes who knows.

To be honest if he's not starting matches and we're sticking with 4-5-1, then he's only to be used in RvP's absence for whatever reason or as the second striker when we change to 4-4-2 chasing a game in the last 20 minutes.

Personally I don't see the bloody point asking him to be an out and out wide man in the way Gervinho or Walcott play. This team lacks a predator in the middle, barring RvP, and that is where we need Henry...not stuck out on the wing playing 'make-believe winger' like Bendtner did last year
It kills me to see him so stubborn and inflexible over a formation/formula that does not work.

We all know Henry playing behind van Persie would work because he can still pick a pass or won't be reliant on pace yet he's talking about playing him on the wing, it beggars belief.
