Glad the media are finally turning up the heat on Wenger and the club... it's about bloody time.

I think the tide is starting to turn. The press are now starting to call him into question - all the papers would have been waiting for another to make a move and now three have called him into question at once.

I fully expect the season to pan out as follows:

1) Wenger signs nobody in the window
2) Henry goes back to NYRB and RVP picks up a knock which keeps him out for a few weeks
3) We have our usual plunge without RVP and therefore no goals and still a leaky defence, we finish anywhere from 5th to 8th.
4) RVP leaves the club in the summer
5) Club attempt to add Europa League games to ST.
6) Fans begin to realise en masse what has been happening for the last four or five years and turn against Wenger and Gazidis.
7) Position becomes untenable.

The big useless German? He has no pace, can't jump, is shit in the air, looks like he has concrete boots on at all times, has zero passing ability, zero football ability and also seems to have no balance considering he's forever falling over.

Have you ever seen him make a pass over 10 yards? I don't think he's actually capable of passing a ball 30 yards into the corner for a player to run on to. Every pass is a side-foot lethargic 5 yard barely rolling ball.

And his technique for his 3 yard "attempt" which went 10 yards wide against Swansea was like how a child would kick a ball. A big wild seep of his leg and skewed it wide.

Of course these articles are only saying what many of us have said on here for a long long time now but I cannot for the life of me understand how the media hacks have been so slow in noticing or highlighting these issues Maybe, just maybe, a period of intense scrutiny from the media allied to public shows of dissatisfaction from the fans might turn up the heat on him to the point that he might walk. I am also hoping that this kind of media reaction might awaken those in the Gooner army who might feel the same way but have been afraid to speak up for fear of being slated by all and sundry.

I also have to say however, that I really cannot understand all the bashing of mertesacker both on here and in the media Of course he has made mistakes along the way but show me any of our players that havent done so this season (tv5 v villa + kos had a nightmare start to the season and they are just 2 players). Fact is that he has come into a very average Arsenal team, with a constantly changing back 4 and now having a (poor) centre back playing beside him at right back plus he plays in a team that refuse to play any type of midfield defender to protect the back 4 - again I will remind ye all how crap our back 4 looked early in the 98 double season until the midfielders were organised to provide better protection. Fact is that mert is not fast but we all knew that before he came, however he has an excellent reading of the game and is showing real organisational skills in a back 4 totally devoid of such a trait. I know I might be biased but I believe that he will be a good signing and that next season we will see real proof of that

With regard to Mertesacker I actually agree with both sides of the argument.

Its true that he has been shit this year and there have been some woeful displays by him that have left me angry and disappointed but I take Augies point that he has been thrown in at the deep end and is drowning in a shite back 4.
Given the right ROLE within a team I believe like Augie that he could be useful to us and come good. But if we keep seeing him left exposed like this then he hasnt got a snowballs chance in hell of doing well.

It all goes back to this awful suffocating tactical system we play called 4-5-1.
When Mert played at Werder he had Naldo to rely on for pace and he had a good defensive midfielder to provide extra cover and not leave him exposed. In return he offered stability and excellent positional sense, proving a real asset to the team played in a PROPER system.
Alex Song is his "defensive shield"and he recently he has spent time playing alongside Djourou as his defensive "partner".

The guy has been doomed from the start.
