I'm not completely au fait with the current Spanish law but, as I understand it, there is a difference between applying for citizenship and no longer being considered as 'foreign' when the applying the cap on foreign players in matchday squads.
You have to be legally and continuously resident in Spain for 10 years to be allowed to apply for citizenship. However, this is sometimes lowered for certain nationalities (often from Latin America), people granted asylum etc. I can't find out whether Brazilians are currently subject to a lower limit.
Either way, he seems to be yet another fantastic prospect to have disappeared into the ether having made no contribution whatsoever.
I'd be interested to know how much money has been spent bringing the PBs, Velas, Omanis, etc etc into the club.
For me, Wellington Silva is a poster boy for the crap we seem to bring in. Not given a visa he went to Levante (a Bolton type club) where he achieved fuck-all and was criticised by their manager for his poor attitude. He is now at Alcoyano, a tiny, piss-poor team. If he (or Hajoric, Botelho etc) were any good surely a better class of club would be interested.
Jack's loan at Bolton was a good move, but these players are just being hidden away out of view.

I know what you mean but these players are sometimes loaned out to put them in the shop window. Clearly some won't make it and will be eventually released from their contracts but that costs money! and you know how the club doesn't like that...SpanishJoe wrote:I'm not completely au fait with the current Spanish law but, as I understand it, there is a difference between applying for citizenship and no longer being considered as 'foreign' when the applying the cap on foreign players in matchday squads.

Another of Wenger's great hopes for the future. Along with Wellington and all these guys out on loan that everyone knows will never make it either. Pathetic waste of time & MONEY.
Why is Wenger allowed to indulge his hobby at the expense of our clubs money. No wonder our wage bill is so disgracefully high with bugger all to show for it.

This is what I've been saying for years. Unlike over here Arsenal are able to raid the youth clubs of the world picking out talant. Whether they make it or not is irrelevant. Some do, majority don't.
The big point is we'll sell the likes of Botelho & Wellington and Co. for a profit. We've been doing it for years.
Just a point in case apparently we're getting more money (Whoo-hoo!) (E1.3M) from the sell-on of Barazite to Monaco.
I agree with Boomer here, although there has to be a cut-off when we realise that a player will never make the grade. I also don't mind them selling players for profit if we then spent that money
With regards to the Brazilians, as it stands due to Spains lax visa regulations, the spanish clubs can bring over the best players from South American a lot easier than English clubs can. For this reason we do have to sign these players earlier (where success rate is lower) to get them to commit to Arsenal over say Real Madrid or Barcelona. Once a player gets to these clubs, we will only ever sign them if they don't make the grade i.e. they aren't good enough.

Do we make money out of these shit deals? For the pittence we receive I doesnt outweigh the money spent getting these player, housing these players, training them and coaching which all costs money. I would imagine there is very little profit, if any, at the end of it. All to satisfy the whim of hasbeen and his crazy projectBoomer wrote:No its not!A dallying Gus Caesar wrote:Another of Wenger's great hopes for the future. Wages will be the major cost but Arsenal has caps in place so players will be on youth capped wages before signing professional at 18.
What’s 18 year old gonna be on at Arsenal? £65k? Seriously probably 5K-10K?
We may make a profit on some, others simply recouping the money spent on wages over the years and others released.

So what are we an entrapeneurial dragons den type organisation? That buys and sells players to make a profit? It's a shit way to run a club we have less than 0.1 success rate making these players into first teamers and its a totally flawed system in my eyesBoomer wrote:Training and coaching doesn't cost much.flash gunner wrote:Do we make money out of these shit deals? Look at how many of the current first team are youth products.
Those that didn't make it were mainly sold. Money for nothing in most cases.
Look at some of the (youth) players we have sold.
Cesc
Anelka
Clichy
Cole
Muamba
Connelly
to name a few.

Neither Anelka or Clichy were in our youth system and Cesc only played a few games for them so can't really be considered 'part of the Arsenal system'. Also we under-sold Cole and I would imagine got not much of a transfer fee for Connelly and probably a couple of million for Muamba. Apart from that though, you're spot on Boomer.
