when i went to istanbul in 05 the turks ok'd it for everyone who had a match ticket to not have to pay for a visa on entry of the country, maybe the russian's will do the same?redarmy7 wrote:need a visa as well, and you can only get that from an invite from the country, by all accounts you get that when you book a hotel

there's not a great deal of time between the semi final second leg and the final - 3 weeks i think. so whoever does qualify, there is no way the russians will process 21,000 visas in time. so realistically, they are going to have to waive the need for them for ticket holders. having said that, it is one surefire way of preventing fans without tickets from traveling.
as for only getting a visa if you have a hotel booked... what if you are flying in for the game on the day and flying back after? that doesn't add up at all.

Come on Ed! Have you seen where Moscow is....??? I think most people will need to stay a night, and maybe more. This is just about the most inaccessible venue UEFA could have picked! In some ways this is good news - providing you have a few hundred £ to spare. Paris was just too easy to get to, with the result that something like 50,000 gooners made the trip. This time around I think its unlikely that all 21,000 will be snapped up by season ticket holders so some of the more travelled Silver members may get a look in.gooner.ed wrote:... what if you are flying in for the game on the day and flying back after? that doesn't add up at all.
went Paris it was brillant but still a dear day out (well couple of days out)
went on the tuesday came back on the thursday good fun but a shitty city though as it was along across the pond it easy as piss
Moscow i sadly don't see myself going to, heard how it's dodgey over there & the Russians were nicking anyone who was english when they played there a good few weeks ago
& the money it will cost more than my season ticket what with flights, place to stay & of couse tickets
hope travel club do something if we do get there then i might be able to use my membership

thats a valid point, i think it was more of an example of how to obtain an invitation to apply for a visa, i maybe wrong, my mate was looking in to it and i'm sure thats what the embassy saidgooner.ed wrote:there's not a great deal of time between the semi final second leg and the final - 3 weeks i think. so whoever does qualify, there is no way the russians will process 21,000 visas in time. so realistically, they are going to have to waive the need for them for ticket holders. having said that, it is one surefire way of preventing fans without tickets from traveling.

We only got 21,5000 official tickets for Paris with a stadium of 90,000!
I think it's time UEFA settled on a handful of decent stadiums (Wembley, Paris, Bernabeau, Nou Camp, San Siro Giuseppe Meazza?) and kept finals in them, where officials are used to international crowds.
Amazed someone here said Paris was a shitty city...of course it is your opinion but there is plenty to do and see there for two weeks, let alone two days.
