When did Wenger become not very nice
When did Wenger become not very nice
I'm sure that most of us on here, used to hang on Wenger's every word. Post match interviews demanded silence in the pub, so we could all here his words of wisdom, as he explained another scintillating victory.
So when did he start to treat us like fools, and start spouting patronising shite.
Maybe it was from day one, but we were all taken in by the "professor" and his charisma.
All I know for sure now is that I hate the very sight of him and turn the volume down when he is giving his post match interviews.

the yoof project. that's when he lost his mind.
so somewhere between 06-07 and 07-08?
i have to say i still think the 07-08 team was very good, but he failed on having good enough back up, as that season we lost almost all our key players to injury for long spells (rosicky, hleb, rvp comes to mind). instead of learning from that and making the necessary chances, he increased the ammount of excuses and the football went on a downward spiral

I first remember calling wenger a prick when stoke beat us away the 1st season they came up. My in law is a Potter and I was at the game with her sat in the Kop end (which is another story altogether that day). It was a shit day at the office in one of those rainy cold northern games that arsenal love so, and a 2-1 loss resulted.
After the game I was in a car with me and 4 potters and wengers post match interview came on 5 live. He was blaming the Ref, the throw-ins, bullying tactics on walcott, the moon the stars and everything bar our shit performance. I think the interviewer even asked him if he could concede that Stoke had actually played well also and the better team had won, he flatly denied it and accused them of cheating a win.
I never felt so ashamed of my club in my life, and felt the need to apologise to the stoke fans in the car on his behalf. I remember thinking what a nasty little man wenger actually is if you listen to him carefully, and in every interview he’s ever given since I can hear the dulcet undertones of a nasty prick who is bitter at the footballing world moving light speed ahead of his perfect football ideology

I think it all started to go wrong when Vieira left. Many fans, including me, didn't realize it at that time because we reached the CL Final one year later and finished fourth in the League on the last day of the season.
Another important moment was when Flamini and Hleb left and no players were bought to replace them. The 2007/08 team could have challenged for the league title if they had stayed. I still don't understand why on earth we let Flamini leave on a free transfer.

I think he's always been the way he is but now that he's not winning trophies, all his flaws are easier to spot. My first reservations started to surface during the 2004/05 season, which started with a bang and then fizzled out after the OT fiasco. I didn't like the fact that he started using Chelsea's financial might as an excuse for Arsenal's struggles because it seemed like too easy an alibi and it stopped Wenger looking within at his own failings.

Or I could switch that shit on you and say the current disregard, contempt and flagrant ignorance the current heirachy show towards the fans, is an excellent example of why, amongst many others no longer go to games.TheCook wrote:The title of this thread is a good indicator of the poison and hatred which has taken over this forum, and an excellent example of why I, among with many others no longer post here.

..and the reason hardly anyone can have a rational discussion about the club on here.
Of course people have varying opinions. What I don't understand is why others feel the need to use abuse and name calling in order to put their point across.

Too much generalisation here from sid and The Cook and Kiwomya. Pure bollocks to say you can't have a rational debate on here. Of course you can - just not with everyone!
sid, for me, Wenger has never been and never will be a cúnt. He is a bloke trying to do his best in the way he thinks it should be done. The problem is he can't see his own failings and has become so arrogant that he now refuses to listen to anyone pointing out those failings. That doesn't make him a cúnt. Deluded, lost, arrogant, wrong - all of these, yes. But not a cúnt. Lying Phil Brown is a cúnt. Fat Sam is a cúnt. Prisoner 156078 is a cúnt.
Wenger is still the manager that won us two doubles, an unbeaten PL title and won the PL at the Drain.
Unfortunately, the game has caught up to him and moved on and he hasn't kept pace. His time is up, he should leave or be sacked, but we should still respect the success he brought us.
Agree with BG that 2008 team could have been something special if Wenger had bought in the players we needed and shipped out the shite. But he didn't and we'll never know what that nucleus of a team might have achieved.
Wenger out. And the sooner the better. But I still love and respect him for what he won with us.
