Ivan Confirms There Will Be No Change In Club Policy...

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Its MONEYBALL

Post by Herd »

Ivan Gazidis fancies himself as a real life Brad Pitt from the film MoneyBall.

About a GM (Billy Beane) who plunders the minor leagues to come up with cheaper and cheaper players to keep the club tantalizingly close as contenders but never winning a trophy.
New players are found using a computer system devised by a mad professor type.
Expensive players are constantly traded away for money.

Sounds familiar doesn't it only it's about baseball .

Yes ,they did win 20 games on the bounce for a New baseball record BUT whilst they have won the western division title 3 times in the last decade they get fucked by either Boston or the Yankees when it comes to the AL Pennant !

Also whilst it was successful in the beginning its effect has worn off because other teams have also adapted similar systems only paying better than the A's !

Arsenal without doubt feel that they are immune to fan hostility for several reasons .

Firstly they reckon that The Corporate Box's will continue to sell because London is a major financial Hub and Arsenal has the best facilities in London.

Secondly they reckon that even if they lose some season tickets sales this will be easily offset by the waiting list OR if the waiting list collapses they will still sell out to the tourist trader who they also figure will spend more in the armory !

The worst thing is they may well be right !
