Re: Welcome Back!
Nice to have the forum back - one quick question - Why is the Arsenal Marketplace locked - it's one of the best features on the old site - being able to buy tickets from fellow gooners

Re: Welcome Back!
After what happened to Gooner.ed the other night, there will be new rules etc but the site admin haven't got round to doing it yet. Will be opened up soon though.Rosie_titters wrote:Nice to have the forum back - one quick question - Why is the Arsenal Marketplace locked - it's one of the best features on the old site - being able to buy tickets from fellow gooners

Thanks, because it's a godsend to red members like myself - who have virtually no chance of picking up a spare
Re: Welcome Back!
Have to say I agree with frank here. No swearing? Really?! Aside from the fact that it doesn't even state that we can't swear in the "forum rules" topic, I liked the fact that we had a laugh & this place was fairly liberal with swearing, tits etc unlike all the other sanitised Arsenal forums. So what words are & aren't acceptable? We're gonna get a ticking off for dropping a f-bomb? Like being back at school...frankbutcher wrote:You being serious? No swearing rule..... Great site, and you ****** it up.
(Ivan will be pleased though.)
warning: watch the language, mate. as this is the first time, it won't get you a warning. next time will though (edited by bG)![]()

Re: Welcome Back!
Thanks for the reply BG. I wasn't thinking that we would be shepherded to a pro-AW stance and I agree the insults were too quick to fly.
My question is if the banner thread had never been posted would it be allowed up now?

yes it would , and i still support the message on it. but i locked it as i felt it had as a thread come to an end and there was no point as the same arguments were been posted page after page,

the no swearing rule makes this place almost as bad as glery glery when it comes to censorship . the admin is a huge lady garden as far as I'm concerned. absolute urine taking going on here

Re: Welcome Back!
Thank god it's back, must agree though the last few months have been really negative and some of
the replies got rather too personal.
Such a shame that the last couple of weeks (Post AC Milan away) have been so good what with the Spuds result and the smash & grab Anfield game, that we have not been able to enjoy it with each other!
So lets go forward from here and WELCOME BACK everyone !
UP THE GUNNERS!

Re: Welcome Back!
Must admit, it does seem mental that the place has gone from being relatively anything goes to suddenly issuing warnings for swearing! It'll be interesting to see how the place does if that rule stays in place- forums have always tended to be for adults (well, football forums have anyway) so the idea of warning people for swearing seems a bit, well, oversanitised. There's a load of canny people on here though so hopefully this is just an initial crackdown to show that its changed from how it was before- fair enough dont allow abusive messages about other posters etc but most people like the "virtual pub" feel of the place and that'll be lessened if it ends up like you're in a family enclosure!Percy Dalton wrote:Not for me I am afraid!
You failed to control the old Gooner forum and then lost your bottle when it became a success!
You have gone form being a slightly edgey, interesting forum with debate and heat to Arsenal Loose Women in one easy move!
Instead of taking ownership you have jacked off the prIniciple that made the Gooner forum successful!
There are so many forums like this..............and typically they have 56 members and 4 posts a day!
All the best.
TBH I can understand the argument about legal action etc but even in its last guise the place wasnt actually as hardcore as it seemed to like to project, there are plenty worse football sites for that kind of thing. Hell, even the Sunderland message board has a thread at the minute that goes far beyond anything i've seen on the gooner (basically a mag has a go at sunderland and by now his mobile phone number and home and work address have been posted, he's getting fleshlights and gay magazines delivered, his mobile has been signed up for free trials that will start charging him soon, he's been signed up for a free sex change consultancy, theres tonnes of sand and manure getting dropped off at his front door, his house and car are up for sale on gumtree and a fake plenty of fish account has been created and gay men are being asked to go to his house for sex). I dont think this place needs to go that extreme (funny though it is) but you'd have thought a happy medium would exist somewhere.
Still, in whatever guise its good to have the place back and to see a lot of the regulars back on again, hopefully even if the swearing rule stays in force it wont stop people from contributing- plus with recent results there might be a bit more cheer around, looks like 4th place is very achievable- not exactly success but at least it would prevent the season from being an absolute disaster

Re: Welcome Back!
Now the actual reason for the forum being closed down im not 100% about, but from what i've heard about, im worried.
A certain supporters group complained about a certain thread, and that was it.
A name which Wenger was called openely on this forum for years by most, all of a sudden was too far.
The insult throwing, which i agree took over the forum (along with the bloody in-jokes which only one or two could understand, which took over almost every thread, i presume this will also be cut down on
) , but i do not believe this too many insults thing is the reason the forum was shut.
In all honesty Im worried that blunt and yes brutal critisism of Wenger on the forum, which must have brought on complaints, forced the owners to basically censor the forum....
The whole "family" forum line doesnt wash either....since when?
I really hope that these opinions dont brake any of the new rules, but im suspicious that the most open arsenal forum, is now being censored and wonder why?

To be fair frank, you cant blame the mods for this - there are rules in place and they, by the nature of their job, are tasked with implimenting them. Sometimes I feel that the mods are too easy a target on here and when you consider the role they do and the commitment it requires then you would have to agree that this place wouldnt last 2 minutes without them.
All that being said I too am totally against the ban on swearing and I really believe that it is the single biggest threat to the future progression of this forum. Whether we want to admit it or not but swearing is absolutely everywhere nowadays with kids and the elderly are frequent tourettes sufferers. Banning swearing on here comes across like an attempt to change society and it concerns me that if some feel restrained on here that they will pish off and the forum as we all knew it will die a slow death. I will agree 100% that the personal abuse on here had gone way beyond an acceptable level but for me there is a big difference between swearing and abusing somebody personally. This clampdown has been caused largely by 1 individual (not sid btw) who felt that abusing other members was ok but I cannot see why he wasnt thrown off the forum instead of punishing us all. According to mike there have been many complaints from people who used to frequent this forum but no longer feel like doing so and I would love to know who and how many there are. I have been a member on here for nigh on 5 years now and I would estimate that I could count on 2 hands how many good regular posters have left here in that time. Changing the format and structure of any place to suit the minority (who dont stick around) ahead of the majority makes no sense whatsoever to me and if this place loses more members than it gains on the back of these changes then I wonder how everybody will feel. I know that in my own life I will go to restaruants and bars that I like and suit my tatstes and I certainly dont frequent places that I dont like and expect them to change a winning formula just to suit me so if this place doesnt suit some then shouldnt they look for a forum that is more suitable to them ? Lets face it, many people on here joined cos the afc forum wasnt to their needs and they sought out a place more akin to how they themselves feel and express themselves so maybe those that didnt like the way this forum was being run should have joined the official forum instead ?
Anyway, as I have said before, I will do my best to adhere to the new rules in place and do my best to support the mods and mike in any way I can but at the same time I am hoping that they will reasses the desire for the ban on swearing and we can all move forward again
Re: Welcome Back!
Spot on augie- hopefully in time they'll at least just introduce a load of swear filters so that swear words come up as asterics (sp!). Like many I just write as I speak- every post I've done since the forum returned I've had to preview and edit as I just swear without thinking about it, I'll get banned through simply not realising I'm swearing if it stays as it Is
