PODOLSKI

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Have to say I'm quite surprised how positive everybody is about Podolski. In Germany most people doubt he'll make it. He had two decent (not more) years or so and failed when he once joined a big club.

NOT that i'm suggesting for one minute that he'll be even half the player.. but didn't bergkamp get voted "worst foreign player" or something similar in italy the season before we bought him? add to that torres was unstoppable for liverpool but *not very good* for chelsea...

IF we get podolski, i hope a new start in a new country, for a team that has expectations but not sky high ridiculous ones, will get the best out of him

(yes i'm being wildly optimistic  )

whether Podolski becomes a hit or a miss at our club, It shows the club are going in the right direction and showing they are prepared to buy world class and well known players.

I'd rather spend £10m on a German International, that has played in World Cups, European Championships ,for one of Germanys biggest team's and also the Champions league.

Than some 16 year old french/congo lad or a french 2nd division player who we hope will be a superstar in about 10 years time

Agreed.

Surely a guy with 96 caps for Germany, has already made it?

once again it seems we are being linked with a dozen or so players

Daily Mail are saying Wenger will break the bank and spend £25m to get Gotze

Sunday Mirror are saying we have jumped to the head of the queue to sign Vertonghan from Ajax

don't ya just love transfer gossip, soon we will have too many class players :D :D

Cologne fired sports director Volker Finke yesterday, not sure whether it'll have any impact on the Podolski thing...

I think he is a great signing for Arsenal. Question will be if he replaces RVP or if he will play with RVP. If Poldi and RVP play together then you will have super quality firepower [TM Arsene Wenger] upfront. If he replaces RVP then you have a problem

Well i guess you have a point. At least it will be interesting to watch and maybe he can do even better than Mertesacker :barscarf:

Btw I doubt any club will sign Goetze for just 25..

Nice photo in one of the papers this morning of podolski grabbing his manager by the throat after being sent off - with a bit of luck he will do the same to wenger when he joins us

Well, Podolski is a great player and still young. He was too young when he played at Bayern and now is really a super quality attacking player.

He was sent off on Saturday and nobody besides the ref really knows why :D
The picture when he goes to the neck (picture 7 of 7) http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bund ... platz.html of the Köln Coach, Podolski just wanted to show him why he was sent off, for catching the neck of the Berlin player, what he did not did.

Well, this is not the Götze saga thread :D but Mario is currently on the way of getting fit for playing football again http://www.bvb.de/?k%E5%84%ECY%1B%E7%F4%9C%5Eh%E6%80%98

I think he will play at least another full season with BVB, at least if not for longer.

The thing I like about the current Podolski quote is the ''yet'' bit.

He didn't come out and say:

''I'm NOT join Arsenal.''

Good news, no? :barscarf:
