No escaping the abuse, either online or in the ground. Although I'm sure the grey coats don't get their hands too dirty, do they?

And, g88ner, would it help if I gave you a hug?

Re: Welcome to our new Mods!
I don't understand the logic there. If you go to the time and effort of upgrading and re-branding the forum, wouldn't it have made sense to ensure you were handing over the reigns to the right people, instead of any tom, dick or harry who bothered to email you? - and did it even cross your mind that other equally - or in some cases, more - capable candidates didn't contact you because they assumed you would bother to ask around and make sure the right people were approached?Mike1 wrote:I didn't ASK anyone to be mods because I didn't need to.
All the new mods volunteered themselves to help the forum. If they hadn't then it's quite likely there wouldn't be a forum now, so perhaps some of you should be grateful to them rather than criticise.
Mike, I know you don't use the forum, and maybe that's why such little effort was made, but perhaps you could have at least made sure your appointments were sensible. After all, it wouldn't have taken much effort and would have been a nice touch to have involved the regulars. Fortunately for the rest of us, Flash, BG and Sammy emailed you, because your recruitment policy could have left us with anyone!
One thing that is so great about this place, is that all of the moderators are mature, respectful and have plenty of intelligent views to make on Arsenal, and I assumed that was because they were hand picked based on advice from others (which is surely the reason Quartz, Chippy, DB10 and I were approached by you 2 years ago?). Jayson rarely even comments on Arsenal, and instead dumbs down threads with his childish obsession of homosexuality. If you used this forum - or bothered to ask - you would have noticed that people were starting to get irritated by Jayson's antics and were starting to complain; as were the mods who had started deleting some of his posts (which included wishing someone - probably Wenger - would die of AIDS. I think IHH warned him and deleted that one)- surely it's that sort of extreme nonsense that convinced you to shut and re-brand the forum in the first place? - and now, bizarrely, he's moderating us??
And Nick (SWL), I'm sure Jayson is a nice bloke, but as Augie rightly said, we can only go on what he does and writes on the forum, and his Mo is usually to force his childish obsession with homosexuality down our throats on any thread he chooses, regardless of the subject matter and whether or not it's interrupting decent football debate.
Perhaps I'm wrong to voice an opinion on this, but I feel the integrity of the moderators is hugely important to the successful running of the forum, and a little more time, effort and dialogue would have been appreciated before making such a bizarre appointment that affects all of us.
Despite what I've written, I actually think Jayson is a nice bloke, but that doesn't make it any less a daft decision.
Re: Welcome to our new Mods!
When I suspended the forum I wasn't sure whether I was going to bring it back or not. I received a lot of emails - some abusive, some threatening, but most were supportive and quite a lot from people who actually took the trouble to apologise for having over-stepped the mark in the past.
In some ways it was heart-warming because the aspect of the forum I have always been proud about is how it's a community, never better illustrated than following the tragic passing of Charlie!Charlie! last year.
I also received emails from people who offered to help and I figured that they clearly cared enough about the forum to want to do something to save it. I accept that's a judgement call on my part and perhaps it will be prove to be a wrong one, but only time will tell I think and I find it a bit disheartening that people aren't prepared to give others a chance.
Yes, I could have contacted people to ask them to be mods or to ask their views on others, but the job of getting the forum back on line was taking up enough time as it was, on top of doing all the normal day-to-day things involved in the fanzine, so had I done that, it would have certainly delayed it's return for longer.

Also given the new rules of the forum, will such rhetoric be permitted? I'd rather it stay here than be all over my facebook as has been the case in the last few weeks

Re: Welcome to our new Mods!
G88ner,
Yes I have made a mistake in the past by making one extremely wrong comment in the heat of the moment but did I not apologise straight away and say I was in the wrong?
As for my style of posting, maybe you don't like but if you cast your memory back to a few weeks before the forum was shut down the overall majority didn't mind it. Maybe now I'm modding I'll tone it down a bit because I don't think I'll have enough time. I've got nearly 5000 posts and don't think they're all about male body parts or conversations. This is a forum where people post what they want (within reason), like the basement and now Cannonballs says it's like a virtual pub where anything goes. Maybe that is where I should frequent more re the in-jokes and personal convos.
This forum is so different to many others and was the reason I signed up a couple of years ago, I come on here probably a couple of times a day (the student scum that I am) so when it went down, I wanted to offer my help in getting it back up. You say I seem like a nice bloke but go on to post paragraphs about me when you don't even know me, maybe think back to my input organising CharlieCharlie's collection fund last year before you want to start slatting me some more. I've met a load of people off of here that I can now call friends and will probably know for the rest of my life <3
So, I'll keep my in-jokes and personal convo's to Cannonballs and get on with the job of helping the other mods and Mike keep this place open because to me it seems like this is the last chance of that. I don't think Mike wants to come on here every night to reply to your disatsfaction at me being appointed mod for what I see are fairly pedantic bar my mistake reasons.

Re: Welcome to our new Mods!
You say I'm being pedantic, but I'd say I have values that I won't compromise on, and for that reason - and unlike you - I don't need to be told that publicly saying I hope someone dies isn't acceptable. And anyway, you only apologised for saying you hoped Wenger died of AIDS because a mod (probably Hlebby) deleted it and warned you to stop it - and not for the first time.HashKads wrote: Yes I have made a mistake in the past by making one extremely wrong comment in the heat of the moment but did I not apologise straight away and say I was in the wrong?
And if it was only "one extreme comment" that you apologised for straight away, then what about these that come up by doing a quick and easy word search for your name and the word "AIDS"...? (bare in mind this was before the censoring started)...
"The *word censored* Cashley. Hope he gets AIDS"
John Terry is a c**t and I hope he dies of AIDS
I hope the *word censored* gets AIDS.
Hope he gets aids the rat *word censored*.
Couldn't even watch it all....Hope both the *word censored* die a slow painful death, cancer preferably.
Die Hill-Wood, you *word censored*.
***** off and die Vermin
And that's just the tip of the iceberg of the nasty stuff you pollute this forum with, and doesn't even touch on the repetitive gay innuendo and taking over threads that has become your Mo.
I don't doubt you're a nice guy in the real world (99.9% of people are!) and what you did for charliecharlie proves what a decent bloke you are, but that doesn't mean you haven't polluted this forum with nasty filth and ruined threads with an endless line of childish behaviour.
At the end of the day, it was you lot and your warped behaviour that got this place shut down in the first place, so forgive me if I'm not waving a flag of support your way after you decided to help resurrect it! - credit actually goes to BG, Sammy, Flash and co. who deserve respect for offering to help out, as they never dropped it in the shit in the first place!
I admit I'm letting off steam over a decision I resent (and I won't comment on it outside of this thread), but considering the new forum is "family friendly" and full of censor to encourage a younger audience, then I can't for the life of me see how you can mod this place with any integrity whatsoever.

Re: Welcome to our new Mods!
Think this is time to get this out again:

Re: Welcome to our new Mods!
Like I said, I apologised about that comment as I was drunk when I posted and didn't think. Mistakes happen.
As for this comment; 'Couldn't even watch it all....Hope both the *word censored* die a slow painful death, cancer preferably.' It was about a child being abused, and maybe you think that's a harsh comment but I still stand by it.
The others are things you hear in the ground week in week out, don't exactly mean everything like the Adebayor chant but just banter. Sorry if I've offended you in the past, maybe it's too extreme but nothing you wouldn't say in a pub, but I'll tone it down because now I have a greater responsibility to think before I post.
We're having a conversation in the wrong place, something you complained about so if you want to talk about it further PM me.

No, of course not mate. That was annoying and ruined threads, but didn't get the place shut... I never said it did.SWLGooner wrote:So what you are saying is our in-jokes and pisstakes where what got the place shut down? (can I say ****?)
From what Mike has said himself, it was the abuse and nasty comments that he (and many others) didn't like, and I would have thought that comments about hoping people die of AIDS and cancer fit that category of comments that led to his decision to lock the place and put more rules in place to make it more family friendly.
Don't think that's a controversial observation, to be honest.
And no Jayson, debate about mods on a thread about mods isn't the sort of thing I was complaining against. Sorry.
