THE FORUM AS IT IS NOW

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

As for the concern that people interrupted the views of the forum as those of the Gooner fanzine as a whole, well surely that could easily have been stopped by prominent discliamers and indeed a pop up when you click forum, to the tune of: "the views expressed on here are not necessarily the views of the gooner fanzine, and are just a place for independent minded supporters to express their OWN views on all things Arsenal"
I'd like to hear an answer to this point. All sorts of companies that provide a platform for independent opinions seem to avoid legal action through disclaimers that views expressed are the sole property of the people expressing them. Why cant this work for the forum?

you are doing a great job, and yep the forum is a bit different from the past - but it would be sorley missed by alot of gooners who come on here

ignore the jibs, coming your way. If people don't like the forum, than put your hand in your own pocket and invest in your own forum and then you can swear and be as close to libel action as you want

give the bloke some credit, for paying for this site and trying to keep it open for fellow gooners
I don't think saying "diaby is sh*t" will get the forum in trouble though, will it? :| seems a bit lazy just to throw an all swearing ban on the forum in the hope that does the job. I appreciate the site being back up what is the point if it isn't the free for all it once was? thats what the mods were proud of, allowing free discussion, even if it meant letting babatunde, red member etc post whatever they like in trying to wind people up. Now its been taken away from us and been renamed and sanitised - it's like moving from highbury to the bowl and making the loud bloke behind you on saturdays that spends his 90 minutes abusing the opposition fans a moderator!

what next? grassing forum members that were posting in an aggressive manner?

what has happened to just having a bit of banter and a laugh?

Mike has stated in a previous post, that he will review the swearing ban, it does seem that the board has gone from a free for all, to over modderation...but i am sure in time the rules will be relaxed a little and fun and banter will return. But this is the best arsenal forum bar none, and if Mike decide's he doesn't need this is hassle. And closes it again. Then a great forum will be loss, Give it time folks

This topic puts me in a real quandry. I can see the huge personal sacrifice and financial cost that Mike et al have put into this place. I can see the sense in a new mix of Mods, who can patrol the place. I can even see the logic behind "no swearing" rules owing to the problem of relative subjectiveness in policing it otherwise.

HOWEVER.....

The new rules have been brought about IMO because of a false argument. Mike has argued that hundreds of posters don't use this place any more, and sees that as proof of the general "tone" putting them off posting. I think that's rubbish. How many of us have signed up to things and then stopped using them for any manner of spurious reasons? As has also been mentioned, IMO 2-3 posters got this place shut down. The answer was simple. BAN THEM. Instead you've created a revolution when all that was needed was a few more mods and to ban a couple of posters. Whilst the intentions have been good, unfortunately the outcomes have been bad. Please don't take our comments as criticism. It is meant to be constructive. At the end of the day, if you carry on with the Forum in its current guise and do not make any changes, you will simply create a replica of the old .com Forum. The genuinely good posters will simply sack it off, which will be a shame.

How about a suggestiions thread to have a sensible debate within? This will focus the frustration in one place and allow constructive debate to be had.

Mike has said he is willing to review the ban on swearing so can we please allow the guy some time and space to do so without breaking his balls every minutes ?

It seems to also be an accepted fact that we got shut down mainly on the back of conduct of a very small number of people so I am wondering if we the majority should have done more to stop it getting to that point :rubchin: We have all adopted the position that it is the mods duty to govern this place but shouldnt we have intervened and had a word with the individuals concerned instead of ignoring the problem ? I know that my feelings right now is that this forum is here for all of us and I'll be damned if we should all lose out cos of a lack of respect towards fellow members by a few so if those individuals continue to abuse other Gooners on here then I will without doubt call for their expulsion

Oh :censored: off Frank. You're so full of :censored: you're gonna float away. You total :censored:stain

See all you have to do use the swearing smiley and I'm :censored:ing sure everyone will know wtf we're on about ffs

Mike, dont waste any more time worrying about what people think. It'll all calm down after a while and everyone will get used to it.

I think what set this forum apart from the others is the quality of the posters not because of the leniancy of the modding.
There we're/are some :censored:ing fantastic posters on here. (Some of which I dont neccessarily agree with). Great in-depth knowledge and interesting points to make. Not because we can have a free-for-all.

Lets face it how many threads were ruined with a few posters just :censored:ing arguing and abusing eachother?
Now we can still have good debate, have a bit of craic but without the constant boll :censored:s of childish name-calling dragging down most threads.

Bear with it and I'm sure all will be rosy in the online gooner garden once again. :)

I have to say augie that I did intervene and ask two members to either stop the personal abuse or keep it to PM's.
They both agreed and it did improve albeit with a few not-so-hidden jibes.
Unfortunately what I dont understand is - one of those members has seemingly been banned. The other has been made a mod!

Its not the swearing being cencored that concerns me, its the fact that peoples views and opinions possibly being cencored. Time will tell i suppose whether this is true, but it seems the only reason the place was shut down in the first place.

My understanding is that a forum is a place for opinions on the arsenal and any other subject matter. Seemed well over the top closing old board because peoples views weren't what the mods wanted. So will I get banned if I have an opinion which might not be the same of the mods? No swearing as well?!?! Are the mods the stewards at the space bowl??

I love wenger, gazidis, hill wood and buy every bit of arsenal merchandise. Is that right mods?

PC brigade gone mad now. As for no use of ****? Ill stop saying it when the scum stop using it.

Too many rules for a forum used by average joes supporting their team. This is football FFS
