Air of optimism to test the swearing ban

Post by Cockerill's chin »

I don't know if spending time on the unofficial official has tainted me, but does anyone else have an air of optimism that, at the very least, our decline has halted? For the first time in as long as I can remember I have a feeling that next year will be better than this year. I know it isn't hard to beat but to start improving, you have to first stop deteriorating, right?

I know the pitfalls in expecting too much from Wilshere after a player has missed a season, but we will have him back in the squad. I have not heard an Arsenal captain speak like RVP for a long time; he represents his team. I think he will stay. Options of Theo and Ox down the right, Podolski and Gervinho down the left. I am prepared to delay judgement on our forehead as stepping up from ligue 1 to the Premiership is tough and I hope he can develop like Kos in his second year.

I know we need to add some bite in our midfield and a left back. Djourou has signed a new contract so we can guarantee we won't be getting a new centre back. Some experienced competition for Ches, however, and two more additions and I think we are stronger than we have been for some time.

Wenger isn't going anywhwere until his contract has run its course but I think he must see his socialist wage experiment has failed. I can't see B52 or Denilson coming back. Squillaci and Average AL and maybe even Diaby will also be moved on. Some significant wages saved that give the club the chance to turn the dressing room back to a meritocracy again. A meritocracy that has the ability to reward RVP with 160-180k per week because he is genuine world class at his prime age.

I know we have been mismanaged. I know we have abdicated as contenders by staying still or worse since 2004. We chose a path of underachievement for share appreciation/ego-stroking. Change might be in the air though...

Obviously this is all crap if RVP and others leave and B52/ others pull on the jersey again and Podolski doesn't come but we sign Park's older brother from ligue 2..

lets hold off on that. lets not forget we played terrible at a bad liverpool team and would have been extremely lucky to get a single point let alone the 3 we got.

the results have started turning around, but once again here comes the run-in where we have lost seasons in the past 6 years. whats sad is our season is already lost except for trying to finish above spurs and at least holding 4th.

the thing is, we will most likely keep 4th place, maybe 3rd, and AW will claim the season a success because that is what AFC has become...a team where success is 4th place.

depends on what type of summer we have, we all know there is far to many average players on big wages we need to get rid of and our bench against milan was just woeful and no one in there right mind thought the two strikers he brought on would really make a difference so for now i will keep firmly in WOBARMY camp thank you.

We still need the players we needed last summer and the summer before that and the summer before that...keep RVP, make important signings, get rid of the rubbish. Change tactics away from this crappy 4-3-3 which doesn't work with these players and who knows? I'm not about to move to the dark side yet though.

I've not thrown my lot in with Darth, tel, just called a ceasefire with the Empire until after summer.

I think moving quickly to secure Podolski and playing badly at Anfield where Halsey was giving us nothing to come away with three points has made me think we might actually be in for some jam. That and for the other reasons I mentioned. Getting rid of the deadwood is just as important as bringing in some fresh faces. As long as he abandons his socialist experiment we may well move forward.

Fair point, I can see how some are feeling more positive but I need to see a sustained run to the end if the season and then a great summer with loads leaving and coming in. Maybe just then i'll get excited but there's nothing wrong with seeing some positivity on here.

Not so sure the decline has stopped, had the mousers taken their chances, then we could have been looking at a scoreline similar to old trafford.
I do admit though that i do feel a tad more positive, in that maybe our luck is changing.
