THE FORUM AS IT IS NOW

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Plus I like the odd beer or three so I honestly don't think I'd be able to reign it all in. And to be frank I wouldn't really want to.

I've only ever posted on two forums in my whole life. This one and an NFL one for about 4 months. Have a guess why I left that one?

It was the free for all/no holds barred nature that attracted me to this forum in the first place. I kinda guess it outgrew its self and the boss man decided that he had to do what he had to do. Can't argue with that.

I just always saw this place as an extention of the pub.

It feels like it did when they banned smoking down the boozer.

But who am I gonna converse all things nfl with then ??

Seriously mate just keep typing the words as you usually would and most of the time they automatically asterick themselves out  If I feel the automatic editing leaves absolutely no clue as to what the word is meant to be then I go in and edit and re-insert the first and last letters of the word 8) I agree that the swearing ban is a pain in the arse though but mike has given a commitment to review this decision so in the meantime it is up to all of us to hang around and post without abusing anybody else on this forum so dont let us down buddy

Have I not got this right then.

You can swear, but it will be asterixed out in certain words and modded in others if the auto word checker doesn't pick it up?

You can't swear at other people though, right?

I think that's where I'd struggle the most.

More by luck than judgement I found the new site and I was a very happy bunny, only to find it impossible to log myself in with my old details. An endless series of ********** error messages drove me mad and the only way I managed to get access to the site was by setting up a new e-mail account and changing name, password etc.

Could a Mod e-mail me with details of how I can PM people and is it possible for me to use my previous incarnation?

Apart from that, I like the site, am very happy to be back and look forward to the forum getting back up to full-speed.

On the swearing front, could we allow Anglo-Saxon as grammatical 'intensifers' (i.e. a more emotional version of 'really', 'very' etc as in "How the fuck did Arry get away with that one?"), but not as abuse directed at forum users?

Months of no forum and trying to talk to the wife about matters Gooner was very frustrating, but, following Arry's successful 'I can't read, write, text, e-mail and am the most disorganised man in the world' defence, she did come out with the classic, "They should forget about making him England manager and keep him indoors for his own safety."

I'm a bit late here but:
1. Forum upgrade (didn't someone suggest this recently *cough*)
2. No sigs
3. No y-word / other racism
4. No personal abuse

Hmm, looks like the old forum without the things that made it a crappy place to be at times. Really looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

If people feel they can't express themselves without swearing, I'd question whether they have anything to say at all. I'm as passionate as any gooner, but I'd be embarrassed to say that I couldn't control myself "due to my passion" etc. I don't have a problem with swearing, but I believe that due to laziness / immaturity / lack of eloquence, there were many times in the past where the signal-to-noise ratio was pitifully low.

Let's make the most of it, this should still be a leading voice for the non-club-butt-licking (is that allowed?) Gooner. :D

PS The logo with the drop shadow and italics is a bit 80s.

Yes, yes and hell yes.

I would have liked to have thought I can do the whole reasoned debate, respectful process, peace and love stuff. In amongst oooh, 2% of my posts it is there. Honestly. Have a look.

But really if we're going that way, we're gonna need that yawn emoticon sooner rather than later. This place will die on its arse.

I think.

One thing I did read or have gotten the impression from Mike1 about is that he feels, I don't know, shameful/ embarrased about how Arsenal fans have have been acting/speaking/in fighting about the club/themselves.

What I would say to this is, how else is it gonna go when you have been constantly lied to year on year. Treated like a cow come milking time or a wife come steak and BJ day?

It's going to manifest into some god awful sheet.

I for one think it hasn't come soon enough and the club have brought it all on themselves.

This place has been back up and running for a couple of weeks now and sadly it seems to have lost it's way. Rules which aren't too disimiliar to those of the old Official are certainly stiffling banter and humour, I appreciate Mike will review these at some stage and hopefully once done this place might pick up a little. I think in the weeks that this place was down, people found other ways of passing their time, so many good posters are missing or have returned briefly and gone again. Even the teams current purple patch has not helped kick start this place into a good vibe zone. I don't want to give up on this place but I fear it has had it's day and perhaps the relaunch was a mistake, a bit like when Keagan went back to Newcastle, so full of promise but sadly a damp squib.

I hope I am wrong :(
