PODOLSKI

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Nice photo in one of the papers this morning of podolski grabbing his manager by the throat after being sent off - with a bit of luck he will do the same to wenger when he joins us
I thought that was Pascal Cygan he had hold of?

This is the reason I haven't gotten excited about the apparently very real prospect of signing a top quality player.

Firstly Poldoski is not on the same planet as RVP. Only about 5 footballers are.
Secondly if he is that good then why did Bayern Munich sell him a few years ago to a smaller club ?
I have seen him play for Germany and yes he looks a very good striker but its the Munich thing I dont get

Ive had this argument before... Why did Bergkamp flop at Inter? Why did Henry at Juventus? Because someone flops at another bigger club doesnt mean they cant make it. Maybe Bayern wasnt the right playing style for Podolski? Maybe he didnt feel wanted or needed there? There are so many factors to whjy someone doesnt do well at one club but is amazing at another. I agree RVP is a class above Podolski but if they could play together its a step in the right direction for Arsenal

Ok thats a fair point flash. What we cant have is Podolski as a replacement for RVP. I feel that keeping him is by far Arsenal biggest turning point of the last 7 years.
Nasri and Cesc we could just survive but finding a World Class striker is near impossible these days and we currently have one of the best.
For the fans and for the current players Arsenal must keep RVP at all costs.
Podolski and RVP together is only making the team stronger.

Why is he having a medical?

Is he injury prone? and, therefore, are we giving him a medical to make sure he's worth waiting for??

Because it's surely not normal to have a medical several months before any contract can be signed, is it?

It isnt about finding a world class striker to replace rvp imo because a club like manure could lose an rvp type of quality player and replace him in a heartbeat but our club, with it's small club mentality, does not have the balls to go and spend 30m on proven quality replacement. It also isnt just about losing a player like rvp but it is that we could lose him so soon after losing cesc, nasri, kolo, greedy etc cos it paints us clearly as a selling club so for me losing rvp isnt about just losing his goals but is also about the message it would send and that aint a good message either

Assuming he'll have another one before anything's officially signed etc in the summer it probably makes sense to do one now doesn't it? If anything long-standing had shown up in this one we could have pulled out of the deal & set about pursuing an alternative, instead of waiting till the summer to find out and wasting a few months in the meantime.

Obviously if he doesn't have a second medical to check any new injuries it'll be ridiculous.

Augie my point with Van Persie is he is currently there with Messi and Ronaldo and then Van Persie. His Injury spell has made us forget or maybe not even see just how good he is.
There is nobody and I mean nobody to replace him with. Man Utd may well spend 30 Million to replace him (if he played for them) but it would be a massive gamble based on the recent money paid for strikers and the return in goals and form.
I totally agree losing RVP will be a blow that Arsenal FC will not recover from because the message is loud and clear to the few clubs bigger than us.
WE WILL SELL OUR VERY BEST PLAYER ANYTIME.

For the record RVP is better than Cesc and Nasri. Sorry if you guys dont agree but just look at what that man can do. He proves it on the pitch time and again while others go hot and cold.
Dont mean to be biased I just think he is genius.
