Cartiledge Repair

Post by RocastleRock »

Hey Guy's I had my cartiledge in my right knee repaired yesterday. Feeling pretty down today, in abit of pain and been told I have to wear a leg brace day and night for two weeks and could be on crutchs for 6 weeks.

Anyone else been through a similar situation? Can you offer me any advice?

Cheers lads

I tore the MCL and ACL in my right knee in a game of football (your kind). I Had to go through 4 weeks of rehab just to be able to get full motion back, BEFORE I was even able to have surgery. THEN I had surgery in which they cut a piece of my hamstring off and replaced my ACL. THEN I had to go through 3 months of Rehab to get full flex back into my knee. By that time, all the muscle in my right leg was gone and my hamstring was very weak. At that point, I graduated college and lost my free healthcare and rehab, so I was never able to fully develop my muscles back in my leg except what I could do on my own.

That was 3 years ago. Today, my leg is still weaker than my left (I'm right footed). I still play soccer, basketball, and a multitude of other sports/activites, but my knee does hurt frequently afterwards. I think there may still be some damage that needs to be cleaned up inside, but unlike the rest of the advanced world, we do not have universal healthcare and I can't afford the $2000 for the MRI and the $15,000 for the surgery

My advice:

1) Tape a soft towel to the tops of your crutches because youll be on them a bit and they can chaff the hell out of your underarms.

2) Go through full rehab including the muscle rebuilding. Its painful at first but get's a bit easier later.

3) If you enjoy playing sports, keep doing so after you've strengthened the muscles back.

ok

i snapped my acl and damaged the meniscus in my knee, lost 30% of the cartilage, only had an arthroscopsy, havent had it rebuilt yet, so no contact sports, but can get away with squash, tennis, cricket, running with a knee brace and decent strapping to provide some stability to the knee, but unfortunately think you will constantly suffer some pain in the knee after sport reagradless, and when we are old we will be fooked as the natural wear and tear takes out a lot of cartilage, and if your strating with less, you will have severe pain in old age unfortunately.

If surgery is too expensive, then try to see a Cranial Osteopath who should be able to help reduce any lingering inflammation and tissue damage.
