As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Are you saying its not relevant how much you receive in transfer fees for the player in question?
No it's not relevant here because in your original post you made no mention to transfer fees. You merely wanted an example of a top manager saying they won't sell their best player, but then going on to do so. I gave you an example. You have now chosen to bring up the transfer fees. That's a whole different discussion altogether and one in which i am in agreement that we got robbed with regards to the Cesc transfer. Anyway, that's not the point. The point was naming another manager that sold their best player after saying they wouldn't.
When Ferguson came out with those comments it was a clear message to Madrid that United weren't going to be fucked about. Everyone, including Ferguson, knew that Ronaldo would eventually go there. Gary Neville admitted as much in his book, but in sending out that message to Madrid they knew they would have to match United's asking price or forget it.
Surely you don't believe this bullshit yourself? So when Ferguson stated with anger that he wouldn't sell 'that mob a virus' he was planning on selling him? By that same logic then with Wenger saying he wouldn't sell Nasri he too has pulled off a similar masterclass in getting £20m+ for Nasri in the last year of his contract.
Not so sure we got robbed for Cesc...£29M + £4m add ons is good. More like undersold.
Madrid payed an absurd amount for Ronaldo, in an economic climate before the recession had hit hard.
The Henry fee seemed a little low, but his age and the beginning of injuries would have affected it.
The Carrol deal can only be taken in context that Newcastle knew Liverpool were getting roughly £50M for Torres, and that Liverpool were desperate for a replacement with little time to organise one.
Then again, we got healthy fees for Toure and Nasri.

Your point about the Nasri fee is fair - £24m especially in the circumstances wasn't the worst price in the world. The main issue I have with that transfer is the way it became such a bloody saga. The guy even played for us this season when it was obvious he wanted out and then the inevitable move to City happened so late in the day that it damaged our start to the season. City wanted the guy from the end of the previous season and we should have put the whole thing to bed long before that final week of August.
With regard to Ronaldo, everyone who worked with the guy knew that his ambition was to play for Real Madrid and Ferguson has managed enough top players to know that if they want to fly the nest one day, then ultimately they will do so. We all know that players and their agents really hold the power in these situations, so yes I do believe that he wanted to send Madrid a message that his club would not be bullied into selling, but knowing deep down that if an £80m offer came along then his employers' would probably make the decision for him anyway. Similarly I think Levy knows that the main shareholders at Spurs would not be able to reject a £50m offer from Modric, but he has to continue to tell Chelsea that they won't sell to get anywhere near a fair price. To my mind we were robbed for Fabregas; a player I think is head and shoulders above Modric and just about any midfielder playing in this country at the time
i have seen many games on TV, from Denmark, where Podolski was playing alone up front
Strong man 2 man, good left food, soots like hose. He did not make atBayern, manily because he was 2 young, and there was 2 much pressure on him.
At Cologne he was stripped his captaincy, but he stood up 2 it, and has neraly scored half the goals Cologne has scored this season.
Though forreign player have 2 adapt, so that is the main problem. Also think, that 100.000 a week is a lot, but what the hell, Bendtner(useless) is paid 52.000 week!!!!
Also think he is waitning 2 see, if we qualify 2 Cl. He is lso linked 2 Lazio, and there are also in the hunt for CL.
Maybee he can play 4-4-2 on the wng,or he can play up front alone insted of RVP when he is havin a rest
Hope we get him
!!!
hope we g play up front alone insted of RVP when he is havin a restof wlly if he keeps moaing about his wages is 2 low

Welcome, mate. Glad to hear that we are doing well in Denmark. Don't worry about QPR, it's a horrible little place with awful views. Save your money for a decent away day at a decent ground.
