It's all so predictable. We have seen this season time and time again.

Djourou did well on Saturday - he is the ideal reserve centre back.Gunnerz4life wrote:I didnt realise we had offered Djourou a new contract. And here was I thinking we should replace him with Vertonghen![]()
he has just appeared to be crap this season because he had to play right back so many times
I do think that squid guy should be sold though
Re: I think i'm on too much crack
Song's ability to create a goal every 5 or 6 games does not come anywhere near compensating for his woeful dereliction of duty in the DM spot and is an area that we could and should have a better option
Rosicky came to us as a class player, spent several seasons injured more often than fit and when he was fit he showed a poor and lazy attitude - of late he has shown much more of the player he used to be but how confident can we be of the same player in the long term ? I fear that now that he has his new contract a return to the constantly injured and non interested player is not too far away

That is more than most defensive midfielders do though isnt it?
and what dereliction of duty in the DM spot? I consider there to be 3 key players in the current Arsenal team - RVP, Song and Walcott. All of their contracts I believe are up soon. It is very important that we hang onto all 3

Got the same worry about rosicky. I mean, where else was he going to get the salary, level of football, etc..?? Won't easily forget his piss-poor attitude.augie wrote:Song's ability to create a goal every 5 or 6 games does not come anywhere near compensating for his woeful dereliction of duty in the DM spot and is an area that we could and should have a better option

Unfortunately, too many people will forget so many deficiencies in the team that what has happened in previous years is likely to be repeated.
Still, that's they way Arsenal fans seem to like it.

Re: I think i'm on too much crack
looking at some of the posts on here it would appear that there are a lot of people who would prefer that we had been a bit more like LIVERPOOL this season and concentrated on the cups. dont suppose you can win really. Dalglish is being slated by the Liverpool fans because he is not doing well enough in the league yet he is achieving what a lot of Arsenal supporters would like. meanwhile Wenger is being slated by Arsenal fans because he cant win anything anymore yet he is achieving what a lot of Liverpool supporters would like
can see where people are coming from a bit. certainly it would have helped if we had won the Carling Cup last season, then we could have said that we were improving this season before contending for the top honours again next season.
trouble is it is now SEVEN years without a trophy. however you can't realistically even begin to challenge for the title these days without finishing in the top 4 the year before....

THIS IS THE ONLY SEASON where 3rd or 4th is an achievement. I have not celebrated nor have give a fuck any other season apart from lasagne gate but back then we had a strong squad on the bounce of being great so not much to be happy about.Red Member wrote:looking at some of the posts on here it would appear that there are a lot of people who would prefer that we had been a bit more like LIVERPOOL this season and concentrated on the cups. dont suppose you can win really. In 7 years he should of won something and that’s a disgrace what ever way you look at it. CL meant nothing as we didn’t attract big players in the last few seasons anyway and we SOLD ALL our best players!!!!!
However this season is a different story, 3rd is actually like winning a trophy due to the scum having there best season! And also the fact the squad was fucking weak!
Now if we resort to being a 3rd or 4th place team next season I will be disgusted. Especially after the quality support this team has had this season. The club need to recognise what’s happens and award us with star signings. FFS we only need 2!!!!!

Re: I think i'm on too much crack
can I just point out that Rosicky was involved in two of the goals on saturday - one to win a tackle and another with a quick pass. At the moment he is our midfield dynamo. okay, he may come back a shadow after Euro 2012 but for now he's doing a great job.
i think he also got just a one year extension didn't he ? or was it three years ?

there are no prizes given out for 3rd place
we are merely making up for our bad start to the season still whilst not having cup competitions to go for.
but I am impressed about the way that we are going about it.
Wenger is right when he says that how we finish the season will determine how well we are likely to do next season

Song has 8 assists, same as Bale and Nani, more than Young or Nasriaugie wrote:Song's ability to create a goal every 5 or 6 games does not come anywhere near compensating for his woeful dereliction of duty in the DM spot and is an area that we could and should have a better option
He's made 16 accurate through balls, more than Mata, Modric or Fabregas. 16 is the same as David Silva who will be in everyones team of the year (mine included) even though he's hardly made a tackle all season. In fact in major european leagues only Ibrahimovic, Messi and Totti have created more accurate through balls than Song this season.
Song's role has changed year on year - playing with Jack he scored more, playing with Arteta he's assisted more. Let's hope next year with both he'll get the goals and the assists.

Plenty of crackheads appearing on this thread.

I am not trying to be a smart arse here but for me the main priority for a defensive midfielder is to sit in front of his back 4 and give them protection plus breaking up the opposition play(ers

I think this season midfield 3 is differentaugie wrote:I am not trying to be a smart arse here but for me the main priority for a defensive midfielder is to sit in front of his back 4 and give them protection plus breaking up the opposition play(ers) - in this regard song renege's time and time again. That of course will lead to some arguing that he is not a DM but then what is he ? Would you put him ahead of wilshire, arteta or rosicky in the ball player dept ? I wouldnt think so cos his ball retention is often s**t and that is something that your above stats dont mention
last few years have been tackler/relay passer/creator
last year: Song/Wilshere/Cesc
the year before Denilson instead of Jack
I think Song/Arteta is much more of a double pivot, more like a deep lying centremid 2 of a 4-4-2, when one goes one stays
I would go as far as to guess Song has won the ball on average further up the pitch the Arteta and possibly has an average position further forward
When Jack comes back I think/hope his role will change and he will become creator
might be the reason Rambo has been shunted out wide recently, if he can do a job cutting in he'll get more game time
