We'll get top 4 and Wenger won't feel the need to strengthen and ditch the chaff in the squad and we'll be saying the same thing in April 2013

how can a team that have won the last 9 out of 10 league games be going backwards ?
And how can anyone judge a team by its last 10 games in a thread entitled "the greater scheme of things".

If we took events of the past couple of months up until we beat Man City, then they would be in turmoil and we'd be future champions. If we look at the last few weeks then Wigan are showing the form of a Champions League team, and next season will surely finish higher than Liverpool.

Whether you have your 9 out of 10 streak in August and September, or March and April, matters not, if the end result is still the same. Every year for about the past five, Everton have ended up with a storming run only to start the next season as slowly as they did the previous one.

The fact remains that if Robin Van Persie leaves the club in the Summer we are exactly where we were last Summer - in fact worse off because his impact on this season was greater than either Cesc or Nasri in the season they left. It really is that important. Podolski - good player that he is - can not hope to score 35 odd goals in his first season in English football, so face up to the reality that next season's fortunes depend almost solely on whether RvP stays or not. If he doesn't we are completely and utterly in the shit and a 9 game winning run does not disguise that fact

Do I sense a split in the steve o and red member love affair ?
Lol - not at all. Red and I are still going strong, although he has returned from his ban a lot more muted and less entertaining.

Come on Red where r u today? Surely that arrogant moron Chesney needs dropping after that second goal and talking up our chances of a 2nd placed finish. Long live Manuel the Great !

Or looked at in another way, that is now 5 league defeats in the last 15 games!! Since the New Year we have lost 33% of our PL matches!! Kind of put's our bad start to the season, which all the AKB's used as the excuse for settling for a Top 4 finish, into perspective. The truth is that we are further away from winning something with this team and especially this stubborn, arrogant and myopic manager, than at any time under his 16 year reign. And what makes things all the worse is that the best teams in the league have never been poorer in quality or the title easier to win than is has been these past 3 or 4 years, but for the reluctance of Wenger to act appropriately. :banghead: :banghead:

And if you want some more perspective.....a team that has lost 10 PL games this season already including defeats to Blackburn, QPR, Wigan, Swansea and Fulham. 7 defeats away from home - more than Aston Villa, and the same number as West Brom

Yep, the start of a 'golden era' for the club

I prefer this statisic

we have won 8 of our last 10 league matches, including wins over Spurs, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle and Man City - very impressive :barscarf:

I prefer the statistic that before last night's game we had the same number of points as at the same stage last year - so that's a real return for the 6.5% ticket price rise and net transfer profit we made last Summer.

Progress indeed - not to mention a worse performance in the CL and the Beer Cup, and the most feeble of exits in the FA Cup

Yep, we're really going places. Oh well, sideways and downwards....

Shame the league is not 10 games long but 38. If it was we might stand a chance.

More defeats than last season and more goals conceded.

Sparksy - we have now lost more league games this season than any other season since we came to the Emirates :(

Steveo - we still have the same number of points that we had at this stage last year

Exactly mate, and what was the mood then? Everyone was pissed off because yet again we'd failed to land a trophy and capitulated when the going got tough fritting away points to bottom rung shit like Blackburn

So what's different this year, in this 'golden era' for the club ?

well we wont win anything again, but can still hope for the 4th place trophy - that is of course the bare minimum required, but it is something that I have said we will get all season.

I am a little concerned now that Arteta is out but no doubt the great mental strength of the team will see us through. I think we will see them play without the handbrake against Chelsea :D

I also see we are in the running for an award - the 2-8 defeat by Man United has been nominated as one of the PL top games of the last 20 years as well as the 4-4 draw with Newcastle last season

as far as I can tell we have won 2 awards already this season as well. Rosicky picked up a player of the month trophy last night and then of course Wenger won a manager of the month award. and the player of the year is bound to go to RVP!

Its also already won the title of "season's most irrelevant game" in your own little world mate hasn't it ?? :D

I presume the CL game of the season was the defining moment in Arsenal's history in Udinese ??
