Re: GERVINHO
Will judge fully in middle of next season when he has settled.
At present time cannot see how he will be a regular starter though, does not look better than any player for any of the three attacking midfield positions.

Re: GERVINHO
We have to judge him after next season because he goes off to Africa again next season..
To be fair to the boy, he was one of our better players before he went off to Africa, but since he has come back he's been awful. Lost that spark, that turn of pace and trickery, he's been terrible.

Re: GERVINHO
I think he's been very poor so far. He doesn't seem to have any real purpose or anything about him. Maybe he needs another year but I'd rather swap him for Dempsey.

I base it on Ljungberg. Average in his first season, but came to life in his second.
Re: GERVINHO
I'm not going to write him off just yet as I think he's far better than current form (or season) would suggest.
He started the season with promise, but his confidence seems to have plummeted as the season has gone on, as he's missed so many chances and I think the African Nations Cup (which is on again next season as well
) has disrupted him too.
He's clearly a disappointment and will never be a world beater, but I think he'll improve and could yet be a useful player for us; if only as a squad player.
Woeful signing though (thanks Arsene
) but we're probably stuck with him now, as there's MANY other Wenger signings who we need to sell first (Denilson, Park, Almunia, Squillaci and Chamakh to start with! - thanks again Arsene
) so lets hope he does improve!

Re: GERVINHO
If he's this shit next season, he'll go down as one of Wenger's worst ever buys. Wouldn't write him off just yet though.
Re: GERVINHO
I told you all. Fact.
Watched him play at Lille and he was budget there, looked inferior to Moussa Sow and of course Hazard was the real baller in that team. I said it back then and will say it again: no football brain, rubbish first touch, no awareness whatsoever of what's around him (remember the lack of pass to RVP at Ewood park), no skill, shocking crossing and little end product.
He's the Ivorian Tony Daley as I said before, a poor man's Kalou (like you can get shitter than Kalou).
Funny thing is, Wenger will sign Kalou too next summer, watch. Wenger is now actively helping the Chavs get rid of their shite, first Benayoun and soon Kalou...
I digress. What's even funnier is the 'I won't judge him yet'?
Really? Funny that excuse I keep hearing from Arsenal fans. You have the most expensive tickets in European football yet, you 'cannot judge' players the imbecile manager has spent £11 mil on until after more than one year!!! Only at Arsene FC. Hilarious. So errr...does it require that much time to judge whether a player can control a ball, spot a free man and cross a ball? Really? Does a player on £70k a week need a whole year before one can evaluate his first touch?
Papis Cisse cost less than Gervinho and also came from another league.
Funny how Newcastle fans judged him good enough a few months in...
Demba Ba cost far less than Gervinho and also came from a foreign league.
Funny how West Ham fans (and now Newcastle) could spot his quality after a few short months.
Juan Mata comes from a foreign league also, slighter physical frame...but doesn't take long to realise how good he is does it?
Luka Modric came from a foreign championship that is barely competitive etc...how long did it take Spuds to figure out how good he was?
Why is it then, with Arsenal players, deluded fans are always going on about 'judging in a year'?
Did ye not all claim Chamakh need a year to be judged? And Almunia? And Mertesacker? And could we not judge Park since 'he doesn't get enough game time' (erm there's a reason for that!)...
You're either good enough or not. Sure some players need time to adapt to the pace of a league etc but flashes of quality always come out. Bergkamp took ages to settle but you could see his quality. Ljungberg is a false example as he destroyed Man United at Highbury in one of his very first appearances - you need to be pretty dam good to do that. Pires took time but had flashes of brilliance.
Gervinho, the pregnant forehead, does nowt but show flashes of unadulterated, shite.

Re: GERVINHO
Our cheapskate club would rather not pay the £2M extra that Valencia required for Juan Mata so we opted for the cheaper option of Gervinho. Says it all.
How many decent games has Mata had for Chelsea in comparison to the amount Gervinho has had for us? Its not even a contest!

You cannot judge a player on one season.
Michael Caroll and Michael Ricketts and Stephen Hughes are proof of that.

Babatunde is back the day after a loss. What a suprise

Re: GERVINHO
Maybe so flash but he is 100% correct about the forehead - it can take up to a year to get used to living in a new country and adjusting to the pace and physical nature of english football but that is absolutely no excuse for having a bad touch, being brainless on the pitch and the inability to see a pass
It was obvious is no time at all that he lacked those most basic of skills so I too cannot for the life of me understand how we should wait longer to judge him - personally I would take a financial hit on him and get him off the wage bill in the summer if there is a french club willing to take him cos another 12 months of these crap performances and we wont be able to give him away in a raffle

Re: GERVINHO
im not backing Gervinho in any way augie, he has been appalling this season but you dont have to be some genius who is right about everything (see Baba's post "i told you all. Fact") to see that
also putting 'Fact' in posts doesnt make what youve written true
