Why Can't They Do Their Talking On The Pitch??

Post by OneBardGooner »

What is it with modern day football players - especially those in the Prem (and especially those at Arsenal)...why do they have to mouth off all the time - making fools of themselves, and why can't they shut the F**k up and do their talking on the pitch...

I think Shez has the potential to be a Truly Excellent Keeper, yes he is young and the arrogance and ignorance of youth can be one of many reasons for a young person/player doing and saying dumb things, but for him to 'hail flappy as the best No 2 in the country' is simply foolish....

I'm beginning to wonder if they're all hypnotised or something, I was hoping that flappy would go at the end of this season, along with the spanish waiter....going by what Shez is saying it looks like Flappy is a permanent fixture !

From http://www.Arsenal.com

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archiv ... e-country-

Wojciech Szczesny has hailed Lukasz Fabianski as “the best No 2 in the country” and admits he faces a major battle to keep his place in the side.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed an impressive first full season in the Premier League, earning plaudits for a series of fine performances.

But Szczesny believes he faces serious competition from within the Club for his place and is taking nothing for granted.

“I think the quality of goalkeepers at the Club is as good as anywhere in the country,” he told Arsenal Player.

“I believe Lukasz is the best No 2 in the country. Every time he goes in goal the team is confident he will do a good job, and to have someone like that behind you gives you a lot of motivation to work hard at the training ground.

“I know I have to be at my very best in every game because he is waiting to take my spot. It helps keep you sharp and to be at your very best.”

Szczesny says that despite starting every Premier League game for the Club this season, he still has work to do before he can be confident of keeping his place.

“I am 22 years old and I don't think I am the established No 1; I still need to prove myself at this Club,” he said.

“If we have this conversation in a few years’ time and I have played 500 games, then I will feel established as the No 1. There is still a long way to go.”

Szczesny and Fabianksi are both Polish.

So I would say that Szczesny is showing his countryman some Solidarity (geddit, Solidarity, geddit, Solidarity, geddit?)

I'll get my coat.

I hate seeing us in the press ,on twitter and all over the media ,unfortunately it is the way of the modern game .
Constant media briefings on Pravda and the national papers mean that it is part and parcel of the incessant Global branding that EPL clubs do.
I yearn for the days of Bertie Mee when we didn't talk to the press and the players were forbidden to do the same.
Even under George Graham we kept ourselves largely to ourselves even as the game went live on TV,and woe betide any player who moaned bleated or said anything untoward in the Press !
The clubs have now lost control of their players in this respect and they are all out there blabbing away but there's nothing we can do about that !

I agre totally that players need to learn that fans dont want to see or hear them talking mundane or bullshit stuff in the media but the club need to take a lot of responsibility too. This article came from the clubs own official website so whose idea was it to put that up there then ? As herd has said, the club needs to tighten the reins somewhat here and if they need crap to fill pages maybe do more pr on the underage teams at the club or even about the coaching staff cos most proper fans want to see the players walk the walk before they talk the talk

Btw this story isnt as bad as the one a few weeks ago proclaiming song to be the new messi, pele and maradonna combined or whatever bullshit story they had about what a great player he is

Totally agree that i wish they would keep their mouths shut but everything is changing its all becoming more americanised. Lets face it over there they interview players while they are still on the pitch. Players have something like 30 mins after a match before the doors are opened and press are allowed into the changing rooms and with more newspapers and websites to fill they will ask more and more shit tripe questions which the players will trot out all the old pre-set answers. Isnt it in the NFL players have in their contract they HAVE to be available to answer questions

Chesney was never going to say 'Flappy is shit and i think we should out him' was he? Even our own website pravda.com has pages that need filling on a daily basis so the same old crap is trotted out by them too.

Just like 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon kick offs are a thing of the past generally so is being allowed to be quiet

I think it's partly a generational thing, with the social media trends, and also that with all the websites, blogs, news shows and sports talk, there's always someone looking for your opinions in order to create a story. Outspoken and opinionated players - like Shez, Barton, those types - are always going to be willing to supply those sources.

more like opinionated people are taking advantage of more outlets for their views.

Good point/s Flash, the Americanisation of our culture/traditions/youth/way of life - makes me angry, to the point where our very language is being usurped, mangled and twisted - no I'm not talking about Boomer  - sorry Booms!

But since starting this thread - I wonder if it was Arsenal.com who have choreographed all this, in that Wenger is planning to keep flappy rather than spend any money on a (Decent) No2, and they formulate these stories and get Shez to talk about this in a interview internally for Gooner consumption, and so of course in some ways it prepares us for the fact that flappy will be staying, it reminds me of how the government will often forecast that unemployment will reach such and such , or that a particular building/roads improvment project is going to cost such and such - and of course they always over estimate, so when the figures are less than they forecast - they can claim the credit etc...

politics and football!? Gosh! whatever next!?
