In The Greater Scheme Of Things Where Are We Now

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

back to the title of the thread about where we are now....

we must not let last nights little setback affect confidence
a lot of attention has been focused on Wigan now being FIVE points clear of relegation
remember that we are FIVE points clear in 3rd place. the vast majority of this forum thought a few months ago that we had NO chance of a top 4 place so surely everyone now should be happy?

why should EVERYONE be happy. how many loses have we had this season  and this is by far the worse arsenal team in wengers tenure with 43 goals conceded so far and we are how many points behind the worse man u team in 20 years doesnt make for good reading of the league table.

REB - If I had said to you in October that we would currently be in 3rd you know full well that you would have been happy with that

happy no . we have had some nice wins the last couple of months but overall this teamis getting worse, fighting with 3 teams for 2 cl places is not a good season even if we finish third, i still feel wenger is clueless when it comes to tactics and players been bought plus our defence is conceding more goals every season , why people are happy to just finish top 4 and come nowhere close to winning anything i will never understand,

Why should anyone be happy? I think you confuse not being as pissed off with being happy. There is virtually nothing to be happy about (the Ox's potential aside) to take from this season

We have LOST nearly a third of our games and have not done the double over a bottom 5 team. Are you really happy with that?

so Red is a blind optimist, spinning things about his team to their most positive and taking the piss...
and this infuriates people??
It's called being a fan

I'd rather hear reality denying delusions of adequacy than abuse of our players and manager
which is pretty much commonplace here

If we come 3rd we've punched above our weight, 4th is par - to be furious about either is pretty strange
5th would be a problem financially but its relegation from the CL not the Prem

unless UEFA totally bottle it (quite likely)
the Oligarchs and Oil Barons miraculously find new fans (both have to advertise to sell tickets)
or they stop buying loads of players (they won't compete)
then I can see one or both of them being kicked out of Europe because of FFP being enforced
of the limitations it puts on their squad building

In the greater scheme of things we all thought we should have bought a striker in Jan
but there's still at least a fair chance Wenger may have won that gamble

No its not. If youre talking to a rabid sp*rs fan you might put a positive spin on things but when youre amongst your own you dont need the pretence and can look at things honestly, can you honestly tell me he means it when he says Denilson should be first choice in midfield if he comes back next season? Its got nothing to do with optimism its about trying to annoy people

I thought the ban was harsh
but whether it was or wasn't he's "done his time" for that
Denilson not mentioned here

I admitted on another thread that my Denilson comment was a bit OTT but anyway can anyone honestly say that Ramsey has been any better in the last few months?

I don't know why people bite with Red. He's a student, who no doubt thinks it's a great laugh to come on here and wind people up. It's a great break from revising.

I can just hear him saying to his mates, "look at the reaction I got form those gooner awnkers today, lol."
