Good result and, coupled with the Sp*rs result, I'd say it was a pretty fantastic day for The Arsenal 8)

Ok, we didn't win, but you can't win every week. We've won 9, drawn 1 and lost 2 of our last 12, and that superb run has seen us go from no hopers to favourites for a top 3 place... so credit where it's due!

As a performance, I thought Chelsea's packed defensive midfield really ruined the game from an entertainment point of view. It was far too congested in midfield, and our midfield (which isn't the most creative at the best of times) struggled all afternoon. But, we still had chances and could have won.

Anyway, time to be positive... only 3 games to pull off a remarkable turnaround to a season, and all against low mid-table teams with nothing to play for. It's up for grabs...

No, but I think a point against Chavs isn't a bad result and considering we've picked up 28pts from 36, and gone from no hopers to favourites for 3rd, I think we should be a little more positive about the situation 8)

It was the Wigan game that was a poor result, not Chelsea.

Anyway, is was more important we didn't lose, as it keeps Chavs at arms length. A loss would have really tightened things up. Oh, and Sp*rs actually lost ground on us, so that's another positive! - only Newcastle gained on us, and their run in is very tough.

It'll be interesting, but certainly when you step back and look at the sitaution with a clear head, we're not badly placed at all... especially when comparing our position to that of 3 months ago!

So yes... stay positive :D

Hang on a second: failing to beat a Chelsea side missing more than half their team, who played their 3rd game in less than 6 days, with this one just over 50 hours after playing their biggest match of the season, and it's NOT a bad result? :banghead: :banghead:

As for the 28 out of 36 points justification, hows about this more current one: 'that's 7 out of our last 15' since we moved into 3rd? :banghead: :banghead:  Sorry matey but unlike you I don't see a hell of a lot to be positive about.

Absolutely hlebby 8) We cannot claim that a draw against a chav team with 8 changes is anything near a good result  FFS the performance, attitude and application was little short of a disgrace

Quartz with all due respect, using tiredness as an excuse doesnt fly - the only outfield players that have being played consistantly in the last 3 or 4 months are rvp, walnut and song and it is very hard to say that song was tired given that he is a lazy fcuker in most games anyway

Why does 28 out of 36 make yesterday's game in isolation a good result though? :? Is that not just advocating resting on your laurels just because of one relatively short decent run? In all 3 recent games that could've been considered "bankers" (QPR, Wolves, Wigan) we've shown some shocking complacency as a result of the same old too-easily-self-satisfied attitude running through the club. Players who have won nothing, & are at the back-end of another shite season overall, letting 6 or 7 games go to their head & start coasting when the only thing left to play for is still touch & go.

And alternatively, 65 points from 105 would make it not such a good point, surely? Either way fact is we were up against a poor, distracted Chav team (at home), with top 3/4 still in the balance & yet we showed a real lack of ambition to win a game that was there for the taking. In the end the scum did us a favour later in the day but that was out of our hands. No shame in drawing with Chelsea but the failure to really push for the win in the circumstances was both baffling & another sign of why we're still so far away from making ourselves genuine contenders again. The ruthless winning mentality just isn't there. Not talking about recklessly pushing men forward either, just about showing any kind of intensity and desire to break out of training match mode. Still not convinced yesterday wasn't just a testimonial.

Chelsea are a good side, even with 8 changes. The team they put out was competitive and cost a fair wack to assemble, so weren't exactly cannon fodder, were they! plus, they had bags of experience down their spine and packed their midfield and congested the game.

Plus, our team isn't very good. It lacks creativity and quality (as people have said all season) so perhaps we shouldn't be too dismissive of a home point against the chavs, especially considering our surprising run of results since January. And, as I said, it was more important not to lose at it keeps Chavs at arms length with 3 to play.

It's all not doom and gloom. In fact, it's better than we could have expected in January, yet still people look for the negatives and continue to moan. This team just cannot please some fans... just accept it's an average/poor Arsenal team, and be glad that it's winning so many games.

Disagree. We lacked cohesion and quality, and it was congested in midfield. But I think they tried to win whilst being concerned about the importance of not losing. It's natural, and considering how average this Arsenal team is, I don't believe we were a disgrace and, in the end, I'm just relieved we didn't lose.

That's very harsh, mate.

Too many questions in here to answer, sorry, so I'll answer the first 2.

Why is it a good point? - because it was vital we didn't lose! 3rd place is in our hands. Yeah, chavs made 8 changes and may have been distracted, but the team they put out had an experienced spine, quality players and cost a shed load to assemble, so you can dismiss them as much as you like, but they were not cannon fodder!

And yes we were poor, but our midfield was rubbish and couldn't string any passes together, so considering how shite we were, I thought a point wasn't the worst result. We were dreadful! - you say we lacked ambition, but maybe we just lacked ability! and undoubtedly, they were inhibited by the thought of losing.

Am I advocating resting on their laurels? NO! I'm being realistic. You can't win every game. Not even United. We've won 9 from 12, which considering how average/poor this Arsenal team is, is certainly a positive, isn't it? I didn't expect it, that's for sure! - so perhaps a draw isn't the end of the world when it keeps chavs from closing the gap and actually pulls further away from Sp*rs.

It could have been worse, that's for sure. Onwards and upwards. 3 to go, all to play for! 8)

As for your bit about us being far from title contenders... well, yes! definitely. We're miles away with these players.

Yeah because me and other gooners are just looking for the negatives aren't we mate!! Can't you see how excited we get whenever the team under-perform? Seriously, don't you think we'd all prefer to be here looking at things through Arsene-patented glasses and not having cause to moan at all? Alas the facts is the facts and those say that almost all the flaws that a lot of us have been 'complaining' about for the past few years are still in existence and we've been proved right a lot more than the so-called rosies who have been telling us that things will come good!! And I assure you - I take no pleasure whatsoever in that!! Indeed, it makes me fecking mad that someone who 'hasn't spent 25 years in professional football' and 'made over 50,000 substitutions' can apparently see stuff that the guy being paid £7m a year can't!! :banghead: :banghead: :|

Mate, things at Arsenal are in the shit. We're an average team that sells our best players and doesn't replace them. We know that and have debated it for months/years. I want Wenger gone and changes at board level (even if we know it won't happen).

But, this conversation is about THIS Arsenal team... and this Arsenal team is average/poor and miles away from the Manchester clubs.... so 9 wins from 12 is good for them. A point against chavs in no disaster for them. Being 3rd with 3 to play when we looked dead and buried 3 months ago is good for this team.

That's my point here. That in the context of this team and this season, we're doing ok at the moment, and amazingly could even finish 3rd and above Sp*rs! - that's far more than I expected in January, and so my levels of expectations have changed and I'm just delighted that we're achieving what we are in recent months.

So no, in the context of our current team in this current situation (i.e. race for 3rd with a shit team) we're doing ok and all is not doom and gloom.

Exited, no! lowered my expectations to crawling over the line for 3rd? yes!

As for "Chelsea reserves" - well quite, but how many titles have Cech, Bosingwa, Terry, Mikel, Essien and Kalou been involve with? and how much did Cahill cost? and Torres? and then you have Sturridge who isn't bad either. Chelsea have one of the most expensively put together squads in the history of football, and have a very strong squad that is never going to be easy to beat... especially with the worst Arsenal team since Wenger arrived in '96/97.

All of the players you mention are either on the way down or were just fringe players in those title winners (FFS - Mikel and Kalou !!!) - it would be like all of the teams that beat us in 2006 saying we beat a team containing Lehmann, Ljungberg, Pires, Cole, Henry, Bergkamp etc.....and quite a good few teams did beat us that season, despite whatever trophies they'd won in their best years. In 2012 that was a Chelsea second string. From that starting XI yesterday how many will start in the Nou Camp - Cech and Terry ?

How much did Cahill cost? Reportedly £7m - something we baulked at but were quite happy to pay €9m for donkey Mertesacker.

Sturridge isn't bad I agree but at a club that challenge for trophies he is one of four strikers they are able to rotate......and our second, third and fourth choice strikers are.......?

No wonder you're so satisfied with a half-arsed performance, answer ALL the questions you lazy bastard! 8)

Don't think I dismissed that Chelsea team outright :? , just said they were poor - which they are/were. And I certainly dont expect us to win every game, as I said no shame in the result itself, just in the lackadaisical approach. Cos I do expect us to try and win (pretty much) every game, and especially when events conspire to provide an opportunity like yesterday.

Yes we're not a great team, but I also think we should be better than 18 points behind a poor United team. So poor as this team is I dont think it's exactly overachieving either.
g88ner wrote:We've won 9 from 12.

Likewise we've won 20 from 35. Either way not sure what the relevance of that is when judging yesterday's performance & attitude - which was my original question/point.

Is RVP a crap striker, or having a poor season, cos he's only got 1 in the last 6? Or is 34 for the season the more important & telling tally? Whichever date we want to select as the starting point to measure our form the fact remains we had a great opportunity yesterday yet we seemed almost happy to settle for a point. If Chelsea had really had to work hard to contain us then fair enough, but they'll barely have to wash their shirts before their next game. That's what I take issue with. I agree it's not all doom and gloom, but I don't see why we should accept them half-arsing it on the basis that they've already put in a decent effort a few times recently, especially when it's still all to play for.
