if we dont qualify for the Champions League
should Wenger resign?
I think he probably should. the top 4 is obviously the bare minimum required and something that I have fully supported him in achieving this season. Failure to do qualify for the CL will probably result in RVP leaving though and with it any real hope of challenging for trophies next season. It may be the right time to draw a line under Wenger and then move on.
of course I still believe that we will finish in the top 4 and have stated that all season, BUT the goalposts are slightly changed now there is a possibility of Chelsea winning the CL. then a top 3 position will be required - something I have always thought was beyond the team.interesting matches ahead in the next few days.

Re: if we dont qualify for the Champions League
you know 95% on here will say yes. he should resign anyway for the fact that we dont compete for the major trophies, yet have all the infrastructure and finances and stature too.
lock this thread down now as ive answered for all, and it hasn't already been done to death on every other thread here.

Re: if we dont qualify for the Champions League
I'm going to go against the consensus here.
I have been in the Wenger out camp for some time now. But if we fail to make CL and Wenger brings in enough players early enough which seems encouraging with the early signing of Podolski, But is also discouraging with his recent remarks about it isn't going to be a busy summer; then I would give him until the beginning of the Euros to have a seriously strong squad for next season.
If this isn't the case, then I'd want him out. I just have a feeling if we were out of the CL he'd be able to bring us a cup. Maybe I'm going mad.

Re: if we dont qualify for the Champions League
a cup, surely its only the league that counts? (if we are not in CL we cant win it!)fa cup and cc are meangless in this day and age for a club our size imo.
podolski is a smoke screen i fear, be it as a replacement for rvp or addition to him, i still dont believe, and cant (due to the historically bull shit put out by the club and past transfer windows) that this one will be any different.
great we have signed pod, but we need more, we need another non woeful striker, a top class DM, and creative defence unlocking midfielder.
not to mention, back up keeper and another quality CB.
its no wonder fan pressure will never amount to anything at the club as we flipflop too much, cant believe you ahve seen the light KJ.

Sorry I meant the league or FA cup, fuck the CC.the playing mantis wrote:a cup, surely its only the league that counts? (if we are not in CL we cant win it!)fa cup and cc are meangless in this day and age for a club our size imo.

it's not that I'm flippant, I just think he deserves until the start of the Euros. Many say if he makes the right signings etc etc etc. And as I said the signing of Podolski looks promising. Along with another 2-3 signing and a new no.2 who might shake things up could be on the cards.
But he's got until 8th June otherwise, it's au revoir.

Re: if we dont qualify for the Champions League
see your point, id love him to put things right, but think the old AW is long gone.
as for the number 2 as some have mentioned if it were jens (it wont be as he is far to outspeoken for AW and not a yes man) that would be fantastic, not least for the comedy value and seeing him kicking off with the oppo benches..no one would dare give us shit with jens on the bench. if not number 2 he should be at the club in some capacity regardless, as he is a legend, a winner and a charachter who should be utilised to instill his spirit into the current players, or those coming through

I think that is what it is PM. It's my heart strings wanting him to be the old AW. As you say, he's probably long gone.the playing mantis wrote:see your point, id love him to put things right, but think the old AW is long gone.

the old went in 2006. Just like all elderly’s that start to go mad he has good days and bad days. Mostly bad but on occasion flashes of brilliance where he can destroy any team put in front of him.
sadly the bad days outway the good.
Like I said if we don’t qualify now it will be his biggest ever fuck up, and a disgraceful one that cant be excused. He should go if we don’t finish 3rd.

I cant believe the arrogance of this comment. it is probably the single worst comment I have ever read on this forum.the playing mantis wrote:a cup, surely its only the league that counts? no the FA Cup and Carling Cup are not meaningless in this day and age and no we are not big enough to think we deserver better. Chelsea and City are the topdogs in the PL right now because they have the money to invest that we dont. United may yet fluke another title but they too are a fading force. the rest of us will have to live off the scraps and the FA Cup would still be a pretty big deal.
the game changed when Abramovich arrived in 2003, I cant believe some people still dont get that.
Re: if we dont qualify for the Champions League
The FA cup and the CC ARE meaningless to Wenger.Just look at the teams he has put out in the last 7 years in both of them. When we got to the semi final v Chelsea in 2009 he left Arshavin who was on fire on the benchRed Member wrote:I cant believe the arrogance of this comment. it is probably the single worst comment I have ever read on this forum.the playing mantis wrote:a cup, surely its only the league that counts? When are fans going to realise its not very difficult, that Wenger has given up ever trying to win trophies ever again. Its 4th place that counts for him and the board
Just realise as long as Wenger remains the trophy room will remain empty

Re: if we dont qualify for the Champions League
More tripe Red! There is money available for us to spend each and every year judging by the profits that are made by the club. With this added to the appaling sponsorship deals that the club signed a few years ago that will soon be up for renewal, we will have more than enough money to compete with City and Chelsea but Wenger/The board wont spend it. Any talk that City/Chelsea's financial might means that they are way ahead of us is nonsense. We will never need more than £40-50m a year to spend on players in order to compete for the big trophies and i dont think that is beyond reason seen as the club is a money making machine and breaking even should be the priority seen as we are a football club after all not a way for Kroenke etc to get rich.Red Member wrote:I cant believe the arrogance of this comment. it is probably the single worst comment I have ever read on this forum.the playing mantis wrote:a cup, surely its only the league that counts? Re: if we dont qualify for the Champions League
red,may i suggest you read your own posts, then you will see that my comment was quite some distance from being the worst thing on here.
the CC is a joke. the fa cup is going the same way. it has never recovered from united devaluing it when they went to the world club champs instead. big clubs pick weakened line ups in it. sure its a nice cherry on top if your competing for the league, but in isolation its not what i want my club to be winning solely. thats a small club/ sperz mantra we must win the cup. arsenal should have bigger fish to fry. if the fa cup is in such rude health and so important why are the fa and media always mooting ideas as to make it more appealing to the biggest clubs, such as proposing giving a cl place to the winner? if it was still so important as it was not that ong ago, then these suggestions would not exist.

Re: if we dont qualify for the Champions League
also its funny how united keep 'fluking' titles despite there decline since chelsea and city came into money....ridiculous comment, there the biggest club in the world, like it or not, and will always be challenging at the top.
