PODOLSKI

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

but you must all see that, right or wrong, Wenger thinks the same as me
and that makes him being shipped out unlikely
You do think in the same way as Wenger. And that is the damning part of it.
Song does all the things he is paid to do badly (tackle, be sensible around the box, break up play, use his head). He does all the luxury stuff well (pick a pass out etc). But that's not what he's there for. Arteta has filled in for his inadequacies all season. It is no coincidence that once Arteta got injured we've flopped again (L, D, D).

All in all, if you think like Wenger, you're admitting you're wrong.

on here yes
in the real world if somebody really believed I 'thought like Wenger' I'd be paid millions to manage a football club

Wenger may not be popular here
but on the football market there are very few jobs he couldn't take

I accept that he tries hard, plays the odd great pass, makes some decent tackles. This doesn't prevent me from thinking that his level is towards the bottom of the league rather than the top.
I know on this site I'm fighting against the tide
but I see Song as an immense player, he's a beast. Best strength on the ball I've seen since Vieira, makes loads of interceptions - does lose the ball sometimes but normally wins it straight back. Amazing creativity (waaay more than the odd great pass - he makes as many key passes as almost anyone in Europe).

Holds the ball whilst we break forward and holds the ball when we're under pressure. Him and Arteta have an excellent partnership.

I think there's a big confirmation bias issue in football. Song is a player much criticised here, his mistakes are registered disproportionately.

Not an argument I'll win...

Song a beast ?? I am reminded of that great line in the film "The Blind Side"........he looks like tarzan but plays like jane    He is without doubt THE worst tackler I have ever seen for a midfielder and I am no teenager  The art of tackling has been greatly diminished in recent years but at no point have I ever seen anybody being told to trip or wrestle an opposition player rather than tackle them properly and that is what song does 90% of the fcuking time  We are still a team that struggles badly defending set pieces and yet this pillock gives them away at an alarming rate :banghead: :banghead:

Hi Gooners,
First of all (again  ) congratulations. Great player and I pretty sure he will rock the PL!

Regarding Kagawa. Yes, he is not extending http://www.bvb.de/?%87%ECY%1B%E7%F4%9C%5En%E1%85%95 his contract and he has stated that he wants to move to England. Rumors are that ManUtd is currently the favorite. So not sure if you can get him. You would have to play more than for Podolski but he is worth every Penny.

Cheers,
Thomas

Haven't been this excited about a player coming in since Arshavin.

That's what it says in the article Tomas linked to, yes. Same story as RvP.

Hopefully he makes more of an impact and for far longer than Arshavin.

If he keeps his pie intake to single figures and occasionally breaks into a sweat he'll be twice the player the fat Russian is.
