Sol Retires

Post by Bradywasking »

Sol Campbell has announced he will retire from football with immediate effect. We have some very good memories of the one time Spuds Captain. Mine is how he steamed in when Ramsey was assaulted at Stoke. Some tool like Macari or Collymore actually accused Sol of getting Shawcross sent off.

Of players I have seen with us, only Adams was better as a centre back.
We should never have let Sol go in 2006.

Some got angry at him because of the West Ham walkout but who knows what he was dealing with that night?

I thought he already had retired. I doubt that he'll retire his ego mind you.

The guy's a massive bell end but he's a winner. Would have him back tomorrow.

Agreed on both counts. He does make Andre Santos look like a walking advert for Weightwatchers these days but the guy made an enormous contribution to the club. Wish him all the best (as long we don't have to listen to his self worship too often :D )

Shows how good Sol was that no one said we missed TA when the great man retired.

In the 2002 World cup and the 2004 Euro's he was the only English player to make the team of the tourament.Up yours Beckham and Rooney

People talk about TA / Bould / Keown as defensive coach. Sol would do the job in his sleep.

To do what he did took massive balls and to put up with the filth that the scum directed at him, without rising to it deserves huge admiration and respect. There will always be a place in my heart for Sol.

I don't think I've ever been so excited by a signing as the day we signed Sol. I remember a mate of mine phoning me to break the news and watching those sorry losers from the Lane go into a period of mourning afterwards. We dined out on the "Where's ya captain gone?" for a good while.

Happy old days

Was a good defender but not anywhere near TA's class imo. Had some great memories and i particularly enjoyed the trip to the swamp for his return (until that game he looked poor but that kick started his career with us).

I always thought that he didn't get his starting positions right but had stacks of pace to get himself out of trouble. Once he started to put on weight he struggled imo.

In fact I would rate TA, Keown & O'leary as far better.
