Political views of realists and rosetinters

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

The taxes raised directly and indirectly from the Banks is many times the amount of money the government pumped in to stabilise them. I'd also like to say that you're quite hypocritical when you are arguing to tax the bankers and tell them how to run things. I thought that the austerity regime was failing in your eyes. Shouldn't banks be allowed to invest and work there way out of the problems. Or are you applyinng the austerity principles to the Banking system? Double standards????? I fail to see how working as a Business Bank Manager got the economy into trouble. I thought that was from Investment Banks buying Collateralised Debt Obligations and Junk Bonds. :rubchin: You are as prejudiced and parrot-like than any Daily Mail stereotype that I have heard about. I can almost predict what you're going to say to each of my posts.
I would have nationalised RBS and created a parralell payment platform
one of the primary drivers behind the bailouts was fear of non-working cashpoints - a genuine societal breakdown
that could be bypassed relatively easily

getting rich from selling your house only works if you dont have to buy another house - no CG is payable on primary residences so price rises dont directly benefit the state. Just transactional stamp duty costs.

"The taxes raised directly and indirectly from the Banks is many times the amount of money the government pumped in to stabilise them" over what period? If this was the case in even decades then we wouldn't be in anywhere near as much trouble...

Banks shouldnt be 'allowed to invest' they should be controlled by civil servants - there will be loads of people to take those banking specialised civil service jobs - because apparently the bankers will quit in droves when they get no bonuses

also non 200% bonuses is not 'austerity' by anyones standards
nobody said working as a business moneylender collapsed the economy - lots have said the total failure of the banks to allocate meaningful resources to that sector subsequently has exacerbated it.

Amazing that having forced out my weird, not particularly relevant to this argument, views and you call them parrot-like...?
Who is it I'm coping my views from? Didn't know a combination of total drug decriminilisation, abandoning custodial sentencing, national service for graduates and getting rid of the army and all political parties was common currency...

Interesting point about RBS. I too would have nationalised them and then used them to effectively lend into the business market. Or you could split the banks out between Investment Banks and the Retail / SME Business side. There isn't enough lending going to businesses, but i would say that this is because a lot of businesses have too much debt already. They don't want to invest at the moment due to the economy. Everyone is in a stand-off and just wants a few years off to pay the debt down. Your manifesto is not parrot-like, but badging people as right-wing daily mail readers is. To call someone who wants sensible immigration as anti-immigration is a joke.

northbankbren wrote:Now by no means am I as clued up as the two of ya on the financial world but as this is about politics, how about focusing more on this country and its people.

Yes spend to make more money. Yes cut but from the top end and invest in the future of the country, spend more on the nhs for example, create more jobs by building more hospitals and not closing them. Do this in the majority of public sector jobs including the railways and underground network. This creates jobs and builds a better service for the people.

Lower the tax for smaller businesses while raising it for worldwide corporations?

How about tax all bonuses over £100,000 BY 80% for a 12month period and see how much more money this develops. And on that note, go hard ball on all tax dodging individuals and companies and see what revenue this could bring in?

All MP’s take a 25% paycut for the next 2 years?

And the major saving this country could make is on “defence”...where actually most of the money is spent on “attack”. Libya has cost this country billions, Iraq and Afghanistan multiples of billions. Now Im not going to get into the justifications, but If the money spent on Libya alone was spent on say the nhs imagine what changes could have been made. I’ve said this before but if the money spent on invading other countries was spent on homeland defence the country would be a far more safer place. Oh and imagine all the new jobs it would create.

More jobs = more people with pay willing to spend it= more money into the country=growth.
pretty much agree with all of this
(apart from the suggestion that I, or frank, are 'clued up')

I did diddly squat for my degree. I can write an essay off the cuff and I'm very good under exam pressure. Beyond that I'm not even that interested in Politics. I do like arguing with people though.

Yes, Frank is spot on.

LDB you should have voted Conservative in the locals!

And to answer the original question - Arsenal = WOB. Politics = T.I.N.A / No Turning Back.
