Sol Retires

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

People talk about TA / Bould / Keown as defensive coach. Sol would do the job in his sleep.

he was on talksport today (I know, I know) and he said he was keen to take his badges and did kind of hint that an Arsenal coaching role was a possibility in the future.

About leaving the tiny totts he said "“It was fantastic to play with those players, Arsenal were arguably the best football team in the world at the time. It was enhanced when I went there it and it was the perfect opportunity."

Great signing for us, won as many titles with Arsenal as the tiny totts have in their entire pitiful history.

We should never have let Sol go in 2006.

Some got angry at him because of the West Ham walkout but who knows what he was dealing with that night?
Yes, I think his Dad had not long passed away and he was going through the grieving etc...... ..I remember the media hounding him bunch o *word censored* that they are..........

...the week after we were away at brum - (Henry scored his 200th Goal! :barscarf: ) and the media were interviewing Gooners asking them what they thought about it...and having been to the pub for 2 hours before kick off...I remember getting right up close to the camera and shouting "WHY THE F*CK DON'T YOU *word censored* LEAVE HIM ALONE!!????"... the sky wanker holding the mic nearly feinted...what a *word censored* .....apparently it wasn't aired!...tch tch!

Great defender- not in Tony Adams' class but still a class act and was immense for England for a decent while (I still wonder what could have been had his goal v Argentina not been ruled out, then a few years later he had another ruled out v Portugal, gutted!). Put a fair bit weight on like but a very good professional and would probably make a good defensive coach. Hope he enjoys his retirement whatever he chooses to do with it

legend :rubchin: hardly , but he was a great player for us with the icing on the cake been a free transfer from them . was on huge wages since he was on a bosman and as with all his clubs he never went for a fee so a shrewd man where money is concerned.

I loved when we took their captain from them and let him win stuff with us. Quality. 8)

He was a great CH and as a key player in the 02 Double and The Invincibles will always be an Arsenal great.

There's a great photo I saw somewhere of him pulling on an Arsenal jersey for his first appearance as a sub in a friendly on a preseason tour (Austria?) and in the background Adams and the lads are all laughing and grinning as if to say "Now you are a Gunner, fuck the scum!".:barscarf:

Well, I like to think that's what they were infering anyway!

That was the back page of The Mirror I think.

Great player, won us the double in 2002 IMO when TA was injured. An absolute beat of a defender with pace and power.
