Good signing I think. But Arsena are still a striker light even if RVP stays, a third striker is needed.

A left back is also needed because for the time being there is but a fat clown and an inept crock.

DCM position also needs addressing.

As does a number 2 goalie.

Oh and a centre-back to replace the liabilities that are Mertesacker and Djourou (only comedians rate Mertesacker at all, any other neutral sees him for the rubbish he is).

If that is done, then we have a chance...

As things stand with the current squad this is a bloody brilliant signing. Remember who our 2nd and 3rd choice strikers are now - possibly two of the biggest jokers since Hawley and Hankin. So if he is coming in to supplement the squad it is the best transfer news we've had in ages

Of course, he soon becomes a downgrade signing if RvP leaves.

I agree with most of Baba's references to the squad weaknesses but I am pleasantly surprised that the Podolski deal has been put to bed already. Already an improvement on last season. There is no comparison to the Gervinho signing - nobody else of stature was interested in him. Podolski could well be a top player at Euro 2012 - his goalscoring record for Germany is outstanding, so I'm glad we won't be playing the usual waiting game till after the tournament

Well done to the club on getting this one right. Lets enjoy the moment

Who do you think we should sign for these positions Bab"s?
Good question.

In a realistic world, and taking into account Arsenal's funds and wages, this is what I would go for.

1. Left-back: He isn't a left-back but is versatile as hell and plays across the back 4. So I would sign Vertonghen and shift him along the line. Affordable, quality player, right age.

2. Number 2 goalie: Chesney is a loudmouth who thinks he's made it. He has talent but needs a major kick up the arse. For here, I would look to sign someone like Diego Lopez of Villareal, seeing as they are possibly going down. Lopez is a very decent keeper despite Villareal's position and has bags of talent and experience.

3. DCM. Simple one this: I would go for Javi Martinez first; Yann M'Vila second, or I would make a bid for Fellaini, who I think is outstanding. Witsel would have been my third choice but Real just agreed a deal to sign him. I'd therefore also look at Steve Defour of Standard Liege, excellent player. Again, all of these affordable. Kick Song down to the bench, so he can practice his ludicrous 'Songinho' outside of the boot passes with an orange instead...

4. Attacker. All major clubs have several options in attack. Manure have last season's Golden boot winner who never starts. Add to that Welbeck, Hernandez, Rooney. Even part-time mascot Owen. Citeh have Tevez, Balotelli, Dzeko, Aguero. Real have Higuain, Ronaldo, Benzema, Callejon. There was a time when Arsenal had Wiltord as 3rd/4th reserve...and Wiltord shits over Park and Chamakh 50 times!
2 strikers ain't enough, because injury to one and you are short again. You need variation off the bench.
Realistically, I'd be looking at someone like Diego Milito of Inter Milan, or Demba Ba's release clause of £7 mil to be our third choice striker and offer an alternative up front.

5. Centre-back. Anyone better than the chuckle brothers Djourou and Mert. That means Vertonghen, Subotic, Badstuber (doubt Bayern sell him though lol)...

One more thing. Gervinho must be booted out of this club ASAP. He is a joke signing, £11.5 mil. Get a creative force in there that can take players on and do the unexpected. Belhanda at Montpellier is actually a very tidy little player and would be awesome, as would Kagawa. I am sick of having to see Gervinho, Diaby (sorry he's always sick when not being shit) and crap like Benayoun/Rosicky having to be relied on to create.

Anyway why did I bother, if Wenger is managing that lot they'll still finish 4th...
  :banghead:

I bet you are the only person on here who thinks that of those two players.

Neither are Messi standard, but both are decent quality players who are a positive force on the pitch.

We do need more signings though, and I would add Hoilett to the the creative players.

You may be happy to read rumours of interest from Brazil of signing Santos. We should jump at the chance we can get cash for him and buy a proper left back.

There's NO WAY any club in brazil can afford the reported 5mi quid, they would have to sell their souls to do it. Fuck, São Paulo couldn't commit £2mi for denilson, who is their 1st choice DCM this season

Babatunde's posts are quite readable when he's not taking cheap shots at all other posters.

I too would like Vertonghan as he could cover a number of positions and Javi Martinez would be awesome (but I doubt we could get them both). Another forward is a must, even after signing Podolski. Demba Ba would be ideal (even though he's gone off the boil since Cisse's arrival) but I don't think he'd be happy with a back-up role. The 3rd striker role is best filled by a Welbeck type younger player coming through the ranks but we don't seem able to produce one and the cheap alternatives from France have been a disaster. That leaves us with an experienced player toward the end of his career but I'm not sure who (not TH14). Raul?

I wouldn't want Fellaini anywhere near the club and I think Rosicky has been as good as any midfielder in the PL since New Year.
