So I would sign Vertonghen and shift him along the line. Affordable, quality player, right age.
Have you watched us play with CB's at fulback we need fullbacks with pace to help stretch teams
Centre-back. Anyone better than the chuckle brothers Djourou and Mert. That means Vertonghen, Subotic, Badstuber (doubt Bayern sell him though lol)...
For his 1st season in the PL I think PM did well his positioning and reading of the game are excellent and what I think he brought to the Arsenal defence was organisation. Yes he is slow and does goto ground a bit quick for the PL but he would of learnt a lot from this season.

Looking at the players you have named it's like FIFA13 or the Spurs rumor mill :blah: :blah: :blah: :blah:
LOL

Comical guff

I'll be kind on you.

Point 1: funny how every other team is able to get players like Chicharito, Gomis, Pedro etc...heck even Spuds had Pavlyuchenko, full international at 3rd/4 th choice for ages. Yet Arsenal with all their money, would be unable to persuade Demba Ba, a decent player with no CL experience, who would jump at the chance...we couldn't persuade him to be 3rd choice huh?

Yeah. Better to stick with Chamakh and Park

Point 2: sooooo...because a couple of centre backs we've played at full back have played like shite (Vermaelen), better to stick with the rubbish like Gibbs and Santos. Again a comical argument. Because it failed once it'll fail again - right? Wrong. How does Lahm manage to play right and left back and look decent? How does Javi Martinez manage to play CB and DCM and be a world cup winner? How does Sergio Ramos play excellent at right back and centre back? More bollocks...

Point 3: Mertesacker. LOL. Best one of the lot!
"His positioning has been good". Errrr yeah, it better be cos he's so fucking slow to begin with imagine if he was out of position! He's in position sure...he's just not very good at stopping shots, tackling, making blocks or turning in a circle - a must for any centre back.
Mertesacker is shit. Period. Don't care how many German caps he has, it's ok when your shield is Frings or Schweinsteiger but when Alex Song is in front of you, then you'd better be dam good. His signing was always gonna flop because of Song ahead and so it's proved.

Oh and just FYI if you took a traffic cone, stuck it in the six yard box...then its positioning would be impeccable in theory. Ya know, always there etc. problem is, it'd still be more useless than a Gervinho cross.

So yah. Perhaps I've played too much FIFA. Which would still indicate that I had a clue about a football related domain. Unlike you, who thinks Demba Ba would refuse competing for 2 nd choice striker at Arsenal LOL

Oh and hold on...when people asked for a second striker in Jan, didn't jokers like you claim
"yes but who will realistically come and play second choice behind RVP as we play with one up front"

Whatever happened to that theory then? How did we sign Podolski to sit on the bench then? (unless of course, this was more AKB bullshit?)

 :rubchin:
few corrections
your post isn't 'kind' it's rude and silly

Hernandez came in and played lots - he looks pretty moody on the bench tbh. I'd be far from surprised if a problem arises.
Don't think Gomis didn't came in as a backup. Just the fact he left St Etienne for Lyon made it a huge transfer. Don't know enough about the transfer but the idea of a French club spending over £10M on a backup sounds unlikely.
Pedro is a youth team player - perfect for backup. Pav will go for a big loss, having never looked

Then on players varying positions you go off on a , frankly surreal rant. The ability of Lahm (one of the players of his generation) to play full back on both sides has no impact on stg's post. He says if we need a left back we should buy a left back, its not controversial let alone 'comical'.

and you use Javi Martinez 'World Cup winner' as your justification?? Jeez Louise I don't remember him playing at all - let alone in multiple positions...

aa so much more, your normal strawman nonsense... does stg ever even mention chamakh/park
or is that just the voices in your head?

can't be bothered

You think Podolski has come to sit on the bench? :?

I'm surprised you think that, Baba - surely it's common knowledge he can play wide? and surely, with "competition" from the likes of Gervhino, he's likely to play wide left (or maybe right) if RvP stays... not sit on the bench.

He could be a clever signing I reckon, as he can play striker when RvP is injured and play wide when RvP starts.

Of course, Van Persie may yet leave, which would make this discussion a little redundant really.

Striker?

I think RvP, Podolski, Afobe and Campbell would be acceptable.
But I do not know if Campbell will get a work permit.
Afobe is a virtual unknown at Premier League level, but deserves a chance.

Right back?

So quartz, you reckon going into next season with just two Proven strikers is acceptable ?? adobe and Joel Campbell have proved nothing and it it would be unacceptable to start next season with those options up front

too some extent I can accept a backup RB learning on the job if we're unlucky enough to suffer an injury there
I think strikers need to be 100% sharp so we should rotate up front

far more important we have the depth up top IMO

Wonder if he's got a breaker in the deal that says it's conditional on us getting CL next season?

It is a question of priorities.
Especially as I am not so sure we can get good money in from the many players I would like to see leave.

I think we now need to add to Podolski with:

Vertonghen
Hoilett
M'Vila
Good second choice keeper

If there is cash left over we can consider another striker or even another creative midfielder.

so pissed off that I cant sleep

even to fit in those we need to ship some out
the 25 needs 8 'homegrown'
so at the mo our 17 looks like:
1 Clarindo Dos Santos, Andre
2 Arshavin, Andrey
3 Arteta Amatriain, Mikel
4 Benayoun, Yossi
5 Chamakh, Maroune
6 Diaby, Vassiriki Abou
7 Squillaci, Sebastien
8 Fabianski, Lukasz
9 Yao, Gervais Kouassi (Gervinho)
10 Vermaelen, Thomas
11 Koscielny, Laurent
12 Van Persie, Robin
13 Mertesacker, Per
14 Park, Chu Young
15 Rosicky, Tomas
16 Sagna, Bacary
17 Podolski, Lukas
- presumably we ship out Arshavin, Squillaci, Chamakh, Fabianski and Park

Benayoun's loan deal will end and he is likely to leave.
Hopefully we let Diaby go, even if on loan.
I would have a good think about letting Djourou go too.

Podolski played his last game yesterday, best news he did not got injured

Cologne is relageted to the second division so you play two uselless pre season games but the trip to Cologne (German Gay capital) should be great maybe for some of you

Cheers, (still drunk from yesterdays party, home at six in the morning   :barmaid: )

Wenger wouldnt have given Djourou a contract if he was thinking of letting him go
he also loves Diaby

Thomas, when are we going to Koln? I tried to figure it out, but can't understand the FC Koln German forum (I speak Spanish, French, Russian and Italian... but no German) :banghead:
