Gibbs

Post by DarylAFC »

Just wondering, does anybody on here actually rate him?

Everytime he plays, we might aswell just have 3 at the back, he leaves huge gaps for the other team to exploit. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw him play where he hasn't dissapointed.

I do.

In defence today he made a number of blocks and interceptions when others had gone missing.

Also, when we only play one upfront we need attacking fullbacks and DMs who read the play and provide cover. If only we had one.

Gibbs is a long way from the finished article but I think he's a decent player.

Fucking woeful positioning but is clearly not drilled and coached in how to defend as a leftback in a back 4 unit. Clichy looks like a world beater now that he's away from Arsene FC

none of the defenders and keeper can say they had a good game - even Vermaelen goes wandering up the field and we then get caught woefully at the back

we need a Mikel type player, so when Vermaelen, Sagna or Gibbs goes forward we got someone, who can sit back and play in defense

with Song and Ramsey plodding around, we lack anyone with real pace to get back and help

I say it everytime that he's being played out of position. As mentioned, the lack of coaching does fuck all to help either. With a proper defensive coach, ideally an ex-player, we would see a massive improvement from Gibbs defensively. Offensively he is a big threat, not only is he skilful, very quick and has a good cross, he gets into good positions high up the pitch as well. Overall he's a good player and will only improve, and I'd like to see him moved permanently back into midfield like he was when he first broke into the first team, with Baines at left back.

Also he was unlucky for the second goal today and was the only defender making an effort to stop them scoring, Koscielny dawdled around like it was a training session for that goal.

That is where we miss Arteta so much, he is diciplined, spots the gaps and sits and covers so well.

Ramsey just gave up running at one point when the norwich guy got through.

No midfield cover just leaves our defence too exposed.

shez certainly didn't cover himself in glory today, but i don't think you can blame him for the 2nd goal.

well it looked like Gibbs was, and he was way to far off his line, you know a chip or deflection would go over his head, lack of competition has made him complacent

there's no way he can be stood on his line in that situation! it would expose far too much goal, he has to be off it and anticipating the shot, which he was.

the very reason deflections so often beat goalkeepers is because so much of shot stopping is anticipation, and you cannot anticipate a deflection cos they can literally go anywhere! this one hit a leg, then the floor, which gave it the perfect trajectory to loop over shez.

what would be the reaction if he was stood on, or maybe a yard off, his line, and the striker had just fired it in to the corner leaving him no hope of saving it? he would've been rightly slaughtered for amatuerish positioning!

if you're desperate to slag him off there's PLENTY of ammo from today's performance for you! that goal isn't an example though

Way too inexperienced to be starting 11. He shouldn't be expected to be a world beater at his age. We need a proper LB, not Gibbs and not Santos.

BAINES FOR LB!

Honestly don't think Gibbs is ready for us yet. He needs some serious defensive coaching before he should be let loose on the first team.

However having said that watch Benayouns goal again and you'll see that Gibbs makes a great run that draws the defender away allowing the shot and goal.

He'd be a decent winger, but the lack of adequate defensive coaching at the club is exposed in his defensive play, or lack of it. His positioning is woeful. He has the talent to be very good and for some reason I quite like the lad, but at the moment he's a liability. And will Wenger sort it out? Will he fuck! :banghead:

He can't defend at all and to do that, you got to be lethal when you go foward, which he isn't. His development was probably hindered by his numerous injuries and that's a shame and all, but the club is not a charity ( that goes for you too, Diaby) we've got to move the unsucessful players on.
