The showdown v the Baggies

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

considering how we started the season in terms of performance, the players who left and the timing of the departures, the fact that we have finished up the 3rd best team in english football is unbelieveable!
i would've taken this at the start of last august without a doubt.
i will ignore the inevitable disappointing transfer window for now, and enjoy the summer :)

Lads, we all know the negatives about this season and Wenger in general but I can't believe that we're arguing on here so soon after a win that we all know was crucial. I'm not 'celebrating' 3rd but there is a load of relief and there are some positives about finishing 3rd which are obvious.
Let's just be satisfied for the time being and pray to God that we build on this in the summer.

Exactly Eboue.

This team is poor. 3rd is great but, what it is, or what it should be is show how far we've stretched out stingy transfer policy. Cannot expect the same next season.

Right now, this is a moment, for those who hate Arsenal FC, as a football club, to swallow their words, and realise they are not as good as they think they are.

More battles coming up, but today just enjoy it.

I'm proud of our defence second half, they defended like men for once.

Believe me I'm glad we got 3rd in front of that other mob but Wenger won't have learned a thing from this season, why should he have,he hasn't from the last 7 years of winning fuck all!!

Finishing 3rd is an advantage because it gives us the opportunity to do our transfer business early. In late August, we shouldn't be in a situation where we are hanging on for potential signings who are waiting to see if we qualify for the CL or not...and that is a massive advantage for us.

I'm not pissed off about the league winners, because I'm happy that Arsenal, in their current position, SHOULD now be in the be in a decent position to give themselves the best possible start to next season.
Oh yea, sorry I forgot about all those Ligue 1 and 2 players that wont sign for us on big money unless we qualify.

Sorry lads for coming across so negative.

I'm afraid I'm totally underwhelmed by todays performance and the result was due to their keeper.
For me all this does is re-enforce Wengers stranglehold on the club and guarantee us more of the same shit for seasons to come.

But you guys go ahead - enjoy your day. Sorry for being an old misery guts.

Koscielny was our best defender this season, so knocking signing players from the French League is a load of bollocks. Of course I'm aware Gervinho and Chamakh haven't been successful.
Your point was that players would not sign unless we had CL. Kos would have signed either way. So your argument about players waiting until we qualify doesn't stand up because we dont go in for top quality players who demand CL footie.

15 years of CL footie and attracting all these players and we've still got maybe 2 world class players in our squad?
Your argument is full of holes mate.

I think keeping Van Persie is more important than finishing 3rd. Without him we are nowhere.

look your both talking bollox, it matters not a jot CL or not, we all know AW has done his buisness for the summer already, bar a couple of cheap as chips kids and no marks there will be no signings. as ever groundhog day continues. he has already said it will be a quiet summer.

rather than take this as a strong footing to address some of the blatant deficiencies, most urgently defensive midfield, but also crative midfield, solid 3rd striker (if rvp stays) utilty defender and competion for ches, he will just repeat same cycle as past 6 summer windows.

No mate. Getting rid of Wenger is more important than finishing 3rd. With him we are nowhere.
