Mainly down to our defense parting like the red sea at times. I most certainly still feel the same way red, a bad day at the office can be excused as long as you put in enough good shifts during the season. I do however think we need a goalie to challenge for his position next year, it will help him get better, otherwise he could get to comfy.Red Member wrote:North-Bank-1987 wrote:Personally I think Chesney has more passion and determination than any other player in the squad bar RVP, I know his distribution needs work but if you look at how many decent saves he has made recently, (the penalty and especially the second save against Kuyt - the first thing that comes to mind) I think we should be greatfull for his service rather than on his back. With regard to calling him an arrogant moron. Hes not a moron and his arrogance is a good sort of arrogance that I only really witnessed when he was taking the piss out of 5pur2. Would really like to see him in the sticks for a long time, I think theres more to come!
after his performance on Saturday do you still feel the same way?
and if there is much more of the same to come then we wont be winning anymore trophies regardless of who is manager. Chesney has been the goalkeeper for our record 8-2 league defeat, our record 4-0 Champions League defeat and has now conceeded a massive 47 league goals this season. Totally unacceptable
now that we have bought Podolski the main priority should be to buy an experienced goalkeeper.

Your wish seems to have been granted - look at the team news rumoursRed Member wrote:donaldo - you are correct. Thank you for reminding me of the irrelevance of the 8-2 defeat.
I suppose that makes Chesney not look too bad.
Steveo - for this final game yes I would be tempted to go for experience in Almunia or Fabianski who has done well in the few games he has played this season. The trouble is neither have played for so long they probably cant be risked.
the GK situation is a clear problem created by Wenger - see even I dont think he is perfect all the time.
it needs to be addressed this summer. We need to bin Almunia and Flappy and bring in an experienced keeper as competition for Chesney. this is my BIG IDEA for the summer rebuilding
I remember Fabianski doing us proud in the run-in a couple of years ago, letting in 3 in ten minutes at Wigan, and Almunia has happy memories of the Hawthorns having gone walkabouts and abandoning the goal last time he was there
Overall, I believe that we have four great goalkeepers. Yes, we'll fucking see won't we. Flappy in goal, no Sagna.....a 'nice comfortable victory' beckons eh Red ?
CHESNEY
I am sorry to being up a thread on this overrated joker but it simply had to be done.
Yet again, I sat in wondrous amazement as I watched Chesney rooted to his line at the Hawthorns, when coming out would have made it much harder for Shane Long. This follows on from his horror show against Norwich - I have lost count of the amount of times his distribution has cost us this season it's alarming.
I think what is even more alarming is how he is rated as some sort of top keeper round here. Small snippet for you: before WBA yesterday, Chesney - who people around here have laughably claimed is better than Krul of Newcastle - had a shots to save ratio of just 64%. That was the fourth lowest in the league.
By comparison, Joe Hart and De Gea had the two highest, which partially explains their respective clubs being top and second.
After WBA, Chesney shots to saves ratio is now in the bottom three in the league, which is absolutely bloody pathetic. I remember the days we had the likes of Lehmann and Seaman.
Chesney has talent but is a cocky shit who needs an almighty kick up the arse (to be fair, this applies to Alex Song and many others).
I think he should be our number 2 next season, and I would like to see someone like Vorm as number 1. There are other more experienced keepers that we could get.
Am I being too harsh?

Re: CHESNEY
He's been playing with an injury apparently and has been having pain-killing injections before each game. I agree that he's over-cocky and has started getting sloppy. His positioning is poor and that is why he gets beat so often. For West Brom's first he was too far off his line. The 2nd was well=placed in the corner. He was also at fault for Norwich's equaliser because he was too far off his line. His shot-stopping is pretty good. His distribution is poor as is his positioning. Who teaches that? Gerry Peyton.

Re: CHESNEY
Well Red did tell you back at the start of the year that we should have brought Almunia back in

I'm very glad we didn't splash the cash for Reina
he's had a nightmare last couple of seasons

Re: Return of the arrogant moron - Chesney
I would have liked us to have done a 'Joe Hart' with him and had him as Number 2 to an experienced Keeper, then out on loan in the prem for a year. Then Number 1. He's been made to make his mistakes on a very high level. He's still young, yeah he's cocky, but 'Keepers are always slightly nuts and a lot of that is bravado of youth.
He certainly needs someone to push him. I think you're slightly harsh on him Baba tbh. Time is still on his side, he's certainly a very good young keeper.

Hes still learning his trade ,most keepers dont come good until at least 24/27 ,whilst he has let in some howlers he also played behind the worst defense Ive ever seen in 46 years Of following the Arsenal .

Lehmann was absolutely crazy and look how good he turned out to be.
Chesney is a fantastic keeper who genuinely loves the club and fans. I wouldn't swap him for anyone in the world.

In fairness, Herd was counting the number of away fans when a lot of those goals were flying in back in '95flash gunner wrote:Herd's a JCLhighburyJD wrote:let in 49 and lost 17 league games in 94/95...Herd wrote:worst defense Ive ever seen in 46 years Of following the Arsenal![]()
