Haven't been to an MLS game first hand, but from what I see, the atmoshere is generally "good" but the supporters groups (our ideas of ultras) have done quite well for themselves. Toronto's are particularly devious for their streamers against the opposition corner kicks.
It's not the best football experience around, but North Americans are giving a good account of themselves so far and doing their best to mimic the atmosphere of Europe.
check out the timbers army. they are the supporters for the portland timbers and in my oppinion the best in MLS. The other clubs with the best support are the seattle sounders, sporting kansas city, and real salt lake. MLS support continues to get better year in and year out
