New member - Arsenal anthem...
Hi fellow Gooners.
I'm new to the forum, but heard about the idea to get an anthem going and thought i'd see what options there were. It's great to think about an anthem as I'm always envious when I go to anfield or maine rd (not yet been to their new ground!)
Whilst I like the andy williams impossible dream, i really like John Denver's Annie's song...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFgKkTKqh9Y
I remember a group of lads on the clock end used to sing it (to slightly different words though) and it get's the hairs on your neck standing, it very easy to sing to and has the right sentiment. It really took off when we played madrid in the Champs league.
I think Sheff Utd sing their own version, but we wouldn't have to change the words from the original. It's also not their 'anthem' so we wouldn't be copying.
thoughts?

AHA! IT LOOKS LIKE TONY SAUNDERS WILL HAVE A CHALLENGER FOR THE POSITION OF FORUM MODERATOR AFTER ALL!
YOUNG BEN IS CERTAINLY THE YOUNGER CANDIDATE AND, PROVIDING WE GET HIM TO BED BEFORE 9.00PM - AS PROMISED TO HIS MUM, BECAUSE HE HAS SCHOOL TOMORROW - WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE ENTHUSIASUM SADLY LACKING IN HIS OLDER OPPONENT!
VOTE YOUNG BEN! VOTE YOUNG BEN! VOTE YOUNG BEN!

Re: New member - Arsenal anthem...
I think someone opposed one of the songs because its currently sung by Macclesfield or some such lower league club. In those circumstances I think I'd disagree with them. However, Annie's Song is so established as belonging to Sheff Utd - who may still be in the Prem next season (fingers crossed!) - that I think we've missed that particular boat. There - now you can return to the main thread....James77 wrote:I think Sheff Utd sing their own version, but we wouldn't have to change the words from the original. Arsenal anthem
I believe that in the 1930s Abide with me was first sung at the FA cup final by Gooners and has been sung ever since.
Seeing as this song already has association with the club and is part of our history I think it should be sung at Ashburton Grove. I think it links well with our glorious past and Victoria Concordia Crescit - our old motto.

THAI-THAI TO MY ELECTION BID?
SO, OFFERING TO BE TONY SAUNDERS CAMPAIGN MANAGER WAS ALL A RUSE, WAS IT? CLEVER. VERY CLEVER!!U.F.G Anfield '89 wrote:Might i remind you that I.H conceded in the nomination in an earlier post. It's still up for grabs. Bags I Moderator! Victory is mine!
TONY MATE, I THINK WE WILL BOTH HAVE TO CONCEDE THAT U.F.G. ANFIELD '89 HAS PULLED THE WOOL OVER OUR EYES AND HAS PROVEN TO BE THE BETTER MAN - THE WILEY OLD(?) FOX!

I SUSPECT IT WAS HE THAT INFORMED THE SUNDAY PAPERS OF THE 'DELICATE' SITUATION I FOUND MYSELF IN, WITH REGARDS TO MY FOREIGN HOUSE-KEEPER/NANNY HAVING....ERM....HOW CAN I PUT IT?....A LITTLE BIT EXTRA (AND WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT A HALIFAX BUILDING SOCIETY ACCOUNT!!)

TO BE FRANK WITH YOU, IT'S A VERY 'COMPLICATED' SITUATION, WHICH I CAN'T GO FURTHER INTO AS IT'S SUB-JUDICE. HOWEVER, RE-ARRANGE THE WORDS: SUCKEY/BOY/THAI/ME/LADY AND 'SUCKEY' AGAIN, AND I THINK YOU'LL GET THE PICTURE

I NOW KNOW HIS FALSE RESIGNATION AS YOUR ELECTION CAMPAIGN MANAGER - DUE TO 'FINANCIAL IRREGULARITIES' - WAS A PLOY TO DISTRACT US AND MAKE IT APPEAR THAT WE WERE ALL TARGETS OF THE PREYING MEDIA.
I GUESS THERE IS ONLY ONE THING LEFT FOR BOTH TONY SAUNDERS AND I TO DO .....

HELLO TO ALL.
I've posted my first reply in the Further Discussions thread about our Anthem.
I've agreed with shane f that STAND BY ME by BEN E KING gets my vote.
We all stand by our club whatever happens, it's the Gooners way, and we all stand (some sit) by each other, so thats why it gets my vote.
