How do you break a vicious circle?
It struck me the other day that this Summer's events have been coming since 5 years ago. Each Summer we fight to keep our players. The reason for this is that we didn't get our Player contracts sorted last season. Last season we lost Cesc and Nasri and wasted all our time on keeping them. During that close season we failed to sign up RVP and Theo. The season before that we effectively did the same thing with Ade and Toure, which lead to Nasri running his contract down. In previous seasons Hleb and Flamini did the same. If we cock up this Summer, Song and a few others will be within a year of their contract next Summer. The problem we have is that we are in a stand-off. Players won't sign unless they can see our ambition. So just approaching Song and Theo to sign new deals won't happen unless they know about RVP. RVP won't sign unless he knows about new players. New players won't sign if they think RVP is off. This circle needs to be broken.
So how do we break a vicious circle?
So how do we break a vicious circle?
Re: How do you break a vicious circle?
Simple. Sack the inept manager in charge and the equally inept CEO that has stood by as RVP, Nasri et sl have watched their contracts run down...

Re: How do you break a vicious circle?
If I tturned up to work after a skinfull and a bifta and proceded to lose £300,000 for my clients I would expect to be sacked or gross misconduct.
I wonder what the Arsenal football management equivalent is because it is amazing how we prioritise handing huge contracts to 'prospects' whilst letting the better players effectively hold the club to ransom in th final 12 months of their deals.
I know it happens at other clubs but the list of Arsenal first-teamers in this scenario in recent years is beyond funny. There is no excuse for having this depressing and predictable saga every single year, without fail.
Wenger seems to think that just his very presence and players 'love for the club' (kiss badge) is enough to convince them too stay. It's not 1998 anymore, players can win things elsewhere, and Wenger has presided over our obvious and avoidable decline.
Out.

In fairness they didn't all leave because their contracts had been run down.

Re: How do you break a vicious circle?
Perhaps, but key players did: Flamini (wasn't until his deal was expiring, granted), Nasri, RvP (in all probability). The point being that the club should never allow such scenarios to develop. If a player has 18 months to go, renew or sell, just as Utd do.kiwomya wrote:In fairness they didn't all leave because their contracts had been run down.

Re: How do you break a vicious circle?
you need to look at things how I do - from Stan Kroenke's viewpoint
ok so his aim is CL each season.
last year we qualified for that by winning our big match of the week v Udinese (whilst global attention was focused on a PL league game in Manchester
)
then we qualified for it again for next season by signing the WBA reserve goalkeeper on a 1 match contract
this was despite selling FABREGAS and NASRI last summer.
Wenger is probably in line for some kind of bonus for overachievement this season by finishing 3rd.
so to this summer and surely Kroenke is thinking "lets sell RVP" and make another profit. Wenger can then repeat his 2011/12 trick. When Kroenke realises we have no more profit making players to sell he may sell to Usmanov. by then I dread to think where we might be.

Re: How do you break a vicious circle?
The thing is that we will always have those, although they are dwindling down quickly. Although I seriously doubt that a few players is something that a billionaire like Kroenke is too concerned about. When Kroenke realises we have no more profit making players to sell he may sell to Usmanov. by then I dread to think where we might be.
The only time that he will get worried will be when season ticket renewals start dwindling and when attendance figures go down. People say that he won't care about the attendances because the tickets are paid for, but for me I think that it shows that there is a cancer at the club and this can only get worse because those non-attendances turn into non-paying ST renewals the next year.

but everyone on here has already said they will renew no matter what - so the vicious circle continues
Kroenke knows this - that is why he bought into this club
