I was just thinking about Wenger's proud boast that Arsenal have been in the Champions League for 15 years in a row.
Now, that is an achievement, but now that the chavs have won the thing, that means that since we started qualifying for the competition, all our main English rivals, United (2), Liverpool (1) and Chelsea (1), have all won it.
Not only that, but so have all our main European rivals - Real Madrid (2), Barca (3), Inter (1), Milan (2) and Bayern (1)... hell, even Porto have won it.
So, by my reckoning, Arsenal and Juventus are the biggest clubs not to have won it since Wenger's Arsenal started qualifying in 1998. After that, the biggest clubs not to have won it since '98 are probably Valencia, Roma, Ajax, etc. who, for differing reasons, are (in my opinion) not in the same boat as Arsenal and Juve.
We've only been to 1 final, too. That's less than Liverpool (2), Chelsea (2), Valencia (2) and the same as Monaco, Inter and Leverkusen (1 each). And, obviously, the bigger clubs like United, Real, Milan, Barca and Bayern have been in several finals in that time.
So basically, we've been in the thing every year, but rarely done anything of note.Only Juventus have underachieved more than us... and they only have to look back to 1998 when they were in the final 3 years in a row, and won it once.
Why don't the media challenge his poor CL league record? and why, when he know's it's so poor, does he bring up his qualifying record so often? I'd be ashamed to do so in his position.
