Cult hero - or favourite rubbish player?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Cult hero - or favourite rubbish player?

Post by officepest »

In light of the imminent moaning ban I thought I'd canvass opinion for your favourite player who was, frankly, a bit poo.

Do you secretly think Gus Caesar could have been a contender?

Do you hark for Hillier? Mourn for Morrow? Perhaps Perry gets your vote or you pine for Luzhny's running up and down in a straight line.

Don't be shy, chuck your suggestions in for the worst, but likeable, Arsenal 11!

I'll kick off with John Jensen as my nomination.

Eddie McGoldrick. Not sure why I liked him but at the time he was, in my mind, a good signing.

Perry Groves for me. Never understood why the crowd got on his back but it wasn't as bad as the abuse Jon Sammels got and he was a really good footballer. Perry was only average but he was a trier.

Raphael Meade, was a local lad, showed some promise too.

And you lot slate my love of the Great Abou - a far superior player to any of the goons listed so far !

Ian Allinson was always a favourite of mine - wouldn't say he was rubbish but certainly not 'super quality'.

It still doesn't make Diaby good enough to be an Arsenal first eleven player though.

Igor Stepanovs, Pascal Cygan. I can't have either of them.

Remember him having a cracker when we beat Birmingham 5-1 at THOF in the Beer Cup (or whatever it was called back then).

That was about it from him

an ordinary journeyman of a player, with naff hair, squeaky voice, terrible skin, trasher of spuds fans in pizza huts, mocker of Eileen Drewery ("i'll have a short back and sides please love... ), taxi puncher, and luggage thief, who was revitalised under Wenger, who won us the cup, scored a hattrick in Europe and played for England....
