strikers to buy

Post by jrthgooner »

Having completed the signing of Lukas Podolski (which I am happy about) it got me thinking that we need at least one more proven goalscorer and possibly a young player to gamble on as a 4th striker who could be loaned out to another premier league team for experience (I am not sure Afobe or Aneke will make it).

My choice for experienced striker would be one of the following as they have all shown they know where the back of the net is and all seem likely to leave their clubs this sumer:
Di Natale - Udinese - fantastic scoring record and movement
Llorente - Bilbao - tall, striong and a good eye for goal
Pogrebnyak - Stuttgart - already shown he can handle the premier league
Jelavic - Everton - if he can score that many goals for a side like Everton what could he do for us?
Defoe - Spurs - great eye for goal and always seems to score

My young gamble woul be Jordan Rhodes of Huddersfield. I have seen him play a few times now and am impressed by his movement and he clearly has an eye for goal. For £3m-5m he would be a gamble worth taking.

we need strength in depth up front as surely Robin (if he even stays) can't do another whole season can he?

What about that lad Joel Campbell? What team does he play for?

I assume that RVP & Podolski are 1st and 2nd, so who's the 3rd?

Did one of either Park or Chamakh not make the list? Also we still have Bendtner & Vela on the books.

Someone will take a gamble with young Rhodes but that is a big step up from Huddersfield to Arsenal in one jump. Personally I think Spurs are foolish to consider letting Defoe leave. When they were comparing the England strikers picked for Euro 2012, they put up his scoring stats for last season and as ever they are prolific - still think he's one of the best finishers around and has proved it at the likes of West Ham and Portsmouth too. If someone in the PL signs him as a regular they will get big rewards I think - someone like Swansea could do with him to finish off their passing moves

We are buying no-one else of note. Get used to it lads. We might get a squad player here or there (Kalou) or a 13 year old to look after Frimpong's braincell but thats ya lot

Either by a good quality player, or give Campbell and Afobe a chance.
Nothing against buying in a striker, but if RvP stays and Campbell gets a work permit I think midfield and defence are priorities.

RVP
Podolski
Bendtner
Campbell

That will be our strikeforce next season.

I'd be shocked to see another striker bought, unless RVP fucks off.

If it's a one can only dream post, I'd like to see Cavani up front alongside vP. But yes, with or without robin we'll go with Poldi, vp, Campbell and Afobe
