That most reputable of newspapers, the sunday mirror, claims that rvp has not allowed the club to make him a wage offer for a new contract and that he has told the club in no uncertain terms that he wants medals not riches - in other words he needs to be convinced that we will challenge going forward. This state of mind is something most have us have felt would be the case with rvp and fair play to him if that is the case but by the same token, if he needs to be convinced by quality signings then I think most if not all Gooners would agree that he will not sign a new deal cos wenger will not be making those necessary signings

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... van-848793

One thing is for certain, if our captain does not pen a new deal before august 1st then he should be sold to the first club that bids 25m+ for him - keeping him on a point of principle would be an absolutely stupid decision and heads should roll if that happened

In the other rag (sunday people) we are being linked with a striker from real madrids B team - can really see this signing convincing our skipper to stay cant you ?

Robin has to go, he will be a great loss but also a great profit. Arsenal are a business first and a football club second, selling RVP for £25m with one year left on his contract is good business, he wants glory and we want profit, selling him suits both parties, good luck Robin, I look forward to us beating whoever you end up at.

Mutley Gooner have I just read what I think I read !!!!!
Did you say selling the best Forward in the Prem and top 5 in the world would be good !!!
I watched the Soccer Aid last night and that Guitarist from Kasabian and Wilks did more in one game than Gilvinho and Chamakh did all year.
Make no mistake losing Van Persie will be the final nail in Arsenals coffin. Podolski or no Podolski.
Funny that the apparently brilliant Vertongha still wants to go to Spurs and not us. All is very unwell with Arsenal FC

You sort of read it right, I personally don't think it makes sense for the team to lose such an influencial player but I reckon that the club will see it as a good business deal from the financial aspect and sadly they put money at the forefront of their ambitions.

I want us to keep our very good, nearing 30s, injury-prone striker
if, like many here, I thought our team was terrible riddled with nowhere near Arsenal standard players
then I would want us to sell and reinvest the money...

obviously we need a backup keeper but that can be cheap,
we need two more strikers behind RVP and Podolski - one could be Afobe or Campbell
I worry about leftback but we have two players Wenger likes there so prob won't invest
we need top quality creative competition in attacking midfield - I think Arteta basically played in Jack's position this season
with both available one is an option further forward instead of Rosicky
I would like to see us invest our money primarily in those two position
midfield: Goetze and Hazard are those most linked, I like Sahin and Belhanda
striker: Giroud is class, Llorente would suit the Prem but needs crosses

most on here want Song replaced, several would totally change the defence, some make Sczc backup keeper
to do all that you need to spend serious money, selling an old striker at his peak is the obvious way to drum up the dosh...

This is the problem JD selling RVP for big money wouldnt mean any more money is spent on the needed positions. If he is sold i want all the money spent and more on the squad but we all know it wont happen

JD, I dont believe that many on here feel that our team is riddled with terrible players not good enough for us but but what many of us feel is that we are quite weak in very crucial positions. Many have concerns about the centre back positions whilst I have serious issue's with the DM position and I dont believe that there is a Gooner alive that is happy with our striking options behind rvp and that is the spine of the team there.

That leads to the other difference of viewpoint I have with you - if we are signing podolski to play on the wing in the current formation then it will be very hard to keep switching him into the middle if rvp is out. Personally I am not at all happy to go with a plan that has the unproven afobe and/or campbell as our back up strikers and see it as a sidewards move rather than an upgrade on chamakh and park who at least have experience playing in decent quality leagues

I'm willing to wager good money I've seen Giroud play more than anyone on this board
admittedly only once live but for 90 mins on TV and streams a dozen times this season + highlights of every game

this moment very late on v Lille basically won the league
http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/mo ... 1-lille-0/

this goal at the velodrome (wins the ball first I think) would have been historic for MHSC even without the championship
http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/ol ... marseille/

Home and away Giroud was immense, a truly great signing

and you rate rami et al ahead of Kos because they are anointed by the hand of Blanc, why is Giroud being picked for les bleus not enough for you now?

your back and forth with baba is a bit of a bore. Saying that you've watched more French games than anyone else on the site is probably true but a little sad, as there are only about 27 people on this site.

It's a bit dull, but you know, keep at it...I like to see if a series gets any betteer.
