I've done a bit of research and discovered it is England's destiny to win Euro 2012. Since the tournament started back in 1960, every time the summer Olympics have been held in a European city, if the Olympic hosting nation has qualified for the finals they go on and win it.

West Germany 1972 (Olympics in Munich)
Greece 2004 (Olympics in Athens)

For the record Rome olympics 1960, Italy did not enter, Moscow olympics 1980, Russia did not qualify, Barcelona Olympics 1992, Spain did not qualify.
