Non-descript is praise indeed given the standard of Henderson's play. I've seen him a couple of times playing for the U21s and he looked shit at that level.
I'd have gone for Richards as well. Given Johnson's (the Glen variety) mediocre season another proper Rb would have made sense.

Had our medical staff not fucked Wilsh's injury up, he would have been in the squad before Barry or Lampard's injury.

Has to be the worst England side of the past 20 years. The squad is filled up with the losers of the past 3-4 tournaments. Its an ageing England side and the youth havent step up yet.

Cahill out, fractured jaw.

Martin Kelly called into squad.

Still no Micah Richards.

Absolutely comical - are ye guys sure that woy wasn't given a mandate to forget about the euros and build for the world cup ? Martin Kelly isn't related to a footballer (unless plug from the beano used to play some footie  ) and is a totally baffling selection   Micah Richards must be wondering what he has done wrong

On a separate issue it is becoming clear to me that big ears Ferdinand must hold told woy that he couldn't play alongside the racist pikey - if a centre back gets injured you surely call up another centre back and Ferdinand should be the only contender for the role

augie,

I think there is obviously some sort of perception about Richards that means no England manager fully trusts him. Hodgson is the third successive national manager not to make him the automatic choice many thought he would naturally become a few years back. Definitely got to be more than about just talent, as the lad has plenty of that. Probably discipline or attitude problems.

Perhaps a reason for his non call-up even now that Cahill has pulled out could be that he may have jetted off somewhere because he wasn't selected in the original squad or back-up list. :rubchin: Having said all that, I for one have always been impressed with Martin Kelly whenever I've seen him play for Liverpool or the Under 21's and think he is a very talented right back. I think I'm right in saying he can also play centrally.

Also, it's likely that Hodgson didn't call up another centre-back because he will probably play Jones there if necessary - not forgetting that there are already 3 CB's even before Jones - and by naming Kelly, he will have a more natural right-back as cover for Johnson. Even if Roy did deem it right to call up another centre-half, I doubt it would have been Ferdinand, for obvious reasons.

Hlebby I totally understand the question marks over Richards but Martin Kelly ahead of him ?? Seriously ? The guy has fcuk all experience at any level much less international level and if 13 of the top seeded countries in world football are in this tournament you do not want to be bringing a guy who looked like a scared rabbit caught in headlights only a few weeks ago at ewood park  Yes it is possible that Richards could be on his hols but do you think that he wouldn't return early to join the squad ? If the answer is no then he should never be selected for his country again imo

Back to the Ferdinand issue, I believe that he has being having a pop at his non selection on twitter today

Richards refused to go on standby, its his own fault.

Yes Kelly is lucky but Ferdinand is a liability and he wouldn't get a game ahead of Terry,Lescott, Jagielka or Jones, he only played loads last year as Vidic was injured.

Johnson is the only rb and is not properly fit or any good, bringing cover in is sensible, Rio is a liability and not worthy of a place in the squad now.

Hodgson is clearly looking past the Euros and rightly so as we got no chance of winning this.

Kelly was very good in the game here at the start of the season, he's in for the same reasons as Chamberlin.

Richards forced Hodgsons hand as did Carrick re Lampard.

How can you pick Richards when he refused to be on stand by?

Capello didnt fancy him either. And in Citeh's run in Mancini didnt pick him.

As for Rio he cant play 3 games in a week and thats from Fergie

The press just want a reason to lay into Hodgson, this is it.

He made the right call on Ferdinand, Benzima and Zlatan would make him look like Anton.
