If we'd won the Carling Cup...

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Ofcourse, its not as if the team we had out there should be expected to beat Birmingham City. If anything our Wembley heroes did well to keep it competitive for as long as they did :barscarf:

I want us to win the league.
If we do not win it after a decent fight then I can accept that we will not win the league every year, but we have to be in with a real shout.
For example the 2007-2008 season where even though we finished third, we put in a real challenge.

I also think the Carling Cup is good for the younger and fringe squad players to get experience and actually prefer them to play in it for that reason than the first eleven players.
Agree with this, it's not the trophies 100% for me, it's the lack of any ambition recently, we gave it a damn good go in 08 and could hold our heads high, since then it's been a shambles.

I think the CC final was the day I went mad.

Beaten by vastly inferior opposition (regardless of how motivated they were on paper we were miles ahead), in the manner we were (not attaching blame but it was a horrendous goal), at the final whistle I couldnt help but laugh hysterically. Such a bottlejob, said it all about us under Wenger in the last few years that we managed to blow that.

A trophy in hindsight probably would have placated me for a while as I believe we may have kicked on from there (at least that season) but if the question being asked refers to whether or not this season would have still happened the way it did and pissed me off, I have to say it wouldn't have made a bit of difference.

EDIT: It also says a lot about how desperate Wenger was that he basically played our first team in the final of a competition he hasn't had an interest in for many years. Made defeat all the more humiliating.

I'm pretty sure that the team were still suffering from their pathetic draw with Newcastle (4-4) a few weeks before this, I couldn't even be bothered going to the CL Final as the 4-4 did finally send me over the edge with this team and Wenger, but if we had won the this cup it would have vindicated Wenger (in his eyes) that all is well and I wouldn't have been surprised if the board would have given him a 10 year contract extension on the back of it.
