The Badge

Post by Nos89 »

I actually miss the 125 year crest from the new shirt. In colour it would look fantastic on the red shirt. The leaf effect gave the badge some character. We should keep it.

If they had left the fucking flowery leaf shite out it would have looked ok - I quite liked the white outline on red. But it's all bollocks anyway, we had a beautiful cannon (the 70's one) and The Sith Lords (or the Board as they are also known) abandoned it so Joe Public couldn't make a few bob at his stall on a Saturday.

I have that old 70's cannon tatt on my upper arm and I fucking love that cannon. 8)

I thought it was a copyright rule, didn't realise it was only specific to Saturday games.

The 125 badge was wrong for a couple reasons.

1. It was cheaply made. No colour was plain, and the thin rubber(?) piping will break down very quickly. Not a great shirt in terms of longevity I'm sure.

2. "FORWARD" was absolute bollocks. A meaningless buzzword with no history or relation to our club, one that the fans had 0 input in... The crest could have been a real winner if it had "Victoria Concordia Crescit" on it. I don't buy that whole "it's the wording from the crest in 1400 BC" or whatever, either. A club's motto should be what is most synonymous with the club and in tune with what the fans feel best represents the team's history.

The design grew on me but overall I found it way too boring, and not nearly historically significant enough.

Spot on, redesigning the crest doesn't mean they have to throw away the history of the badge. "Forward" was just nonsense and VCC would have been a nice touch. Not to mention it would actually have depth in our history as opposed to just being a commercial gimmick that the board/Nike use to convince us they're not mugging us off. Does anybody actually believe that having blue on our sleeves is a tribute to a historic kit because one team had a blue hoop on the socks? Not a chance.
